Kings' Conroy named NHL Offensive Player of the Week; Red Wings' Legace is top Defensive Player
NEW YORK/TORONTO (October 24, 2005) -- Los Angeles Kings forward Craig
Conroy, who tallied seven points (two goals, five assists) and posted a
+5 rating in three games, has been named the NHL's Offensive Player of
the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 23. Detroit
goaltender Manny Legace, who led the Red Wings to three victories and
recorded a 1.30 goals-against average and one shutout, has been named
the League's Defensive Player of the Week.

New York Rangers right wing Jaromir Jagr (6-1--7 in four games), Boston
Bruins center Joe Thornton (2-4--6 in two games), Vancouver Canucks
center Brendan Morrison (2-4--6 in three games) and Minnesota Wild
right wing Marian Gaborik (2-4--6 in three games) were runners-up for
offensive honors, while goaltender Dan Cloutier of the Vancouver
Canucks (3-0-0, 2.68 GAA) was runner-up for the defensive award.
Conroy tallied the game-winning goal with three assists and a +3 rating
in a 5-4 road victory against the Colorado Avalanche Wednesday and
recorded a goal, two assists and a +3 rating in a 7-2 victory at Dallas
Thursday. He did not record a point in a 3-2 home loss to the
Calgary Flames Sunday.
Signed as a free agent by the Kings in July, 2004, Conroy ranks third
on the club in scoring with eight points (two goals, six assists) in
nine games. The Kings (6-3-0, 12 points) lead the Pacific
Division, holding a two-point lead over the second-place Dallas Stars.
Legace began the week making 26 saves as the Red Wings defeated the San
Jose Sharks, 3-2, Monday. He turned aside 23 shots in a 3-2
victory against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim Wednesday and notched his
eighth career shutout (17 saves) in a 6-0 victory at Columbus Saturday.
Legace has appeared in each of Detroit's nine games, posting a record
of 8-1-0 with a 1.77 goals-against average and .925 save percentage.
