POSTGAME NOTES:
-- Bailey opened the scoring at 7:22 of the first, tapping in a backdoor feed from Anthony Beauvillier. Bailey finished the preseason with two goals and four assists.
-- The Sabres answered Bailey's icebreaker 58 seconds later, as Zemgus Girgensons deflected in a Brendan Guhle shot past Robin Lehner at 8:20 of the first.
-- Buffalo jumped out a 3-1 lead with a pair of goals in the first 3:42 of the second period, as Casey Nelson and Rasmus Dahlin scored on point shots.
-- Anders Lee cut the deficit to 3-2 with a power-play goal at 4:36. Mathew Barzal set Lee up for a one-timer in the slot and Lee made no mistake, burying his first of the night past Carter Hutton.
-- Thomas Greiss (10 saves on 12 shots) relieved Robin Lehner (11 saves on 14 shots) midway through the second period. Head Coach Barry Trotz said his plan was for the goalies to split the game to avoid a long layoff ahead of the Oct. 4 season opener.
-- Jeff Skinner scored a pair of goals 1:30 apart to put the Sabres up 5-2. Skinner's first was a bank shot off Greiss at 11:34, while his second was a power-play goal at 13:04.
-- Ryan Pulock blasted a one-timer past Hutton to make it 5-3 at 15:34. Pulock's goal was his fifth of the preseason and fifth in his last four games. Barzal dished to Pulock for his second assist of the night and eighth in six games.
-- Lee snapped home his second of the night - and fourth of the preseason - with 4:41 to play in the third, but that's as close as the Islanders would come.
-- The Islanders power play went 2-for-5, while the penalty kill went 1-for-4
