Oilers Ference to have Player Safety hearing

Edmonton Oilers captain Andrew Ference will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday.

At 14:03 of the second period of the Oilers' game Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks, Ference hit Cancuks forward Zack Kassian. Ference was assessed a minor penalty for an illegal check to the head. Kassian was not injured on the play.

The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: illegal check to the head, charging. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.

NEW YORKLos Angeles Kings forward Jordan Nolan has been suspended for two games, without pay, for boarding Detroit Red Wings forward Darren Helm during NHL Game No. 149 in Detroit on Friday, October 31, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 3:53 of the third period. Nolan was assessed a minor penalty for boarding.

Nolan is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, will forfeit $17,073.18. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Los Angeles Kings forward Jordan Nolan will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Sunday.

At 3:53 of the third period of the Kings' game Friday against the Detroit Red Wings, Nolan hit Red Wings center Darren Helm from behind into the boards. Nolan was assessed a minor penalty for boarding. Helm was not injured on the play.

The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: boarding. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.

Predators' Volchenkov to have Player Safety hearing

Nashville Predators defenseman Anton Volchenkov will have a phone hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Sunday at the player's request.

Volchenkov hit Calgary Flames forward Michael Ferland in the head with 48 seconds remaining in the second period of the Predators' game Friday against the Flames. No penalty was called on the play. Ferland did not return to the game.

The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: elbow and illegal check to the head. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.

Canucks' Burrows suspended three games

NEW YORK -- Vancouver Canucks forward Alexandre Burrows has been suspended for three games, without pay, for a late, illegal check to the head of Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin during NHL Game No. 147 in Vancouver on Thursday, October 30, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 8:23 of the second period.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Burrows will forfeit $72,580.65. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Vancouver Canucks forward Alexandre Burrows will have a phone hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Friday.

Burrows checked Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin at 8:28 of the second period of a game Thursday at Rogers Arena. No penalty was called on the play. Emelin missed the remainder of the second period but returned for the third.

NEW YORK -- New York Rangers defenseman John Moore has been suspended for five games, without pay, for an illegal check to the head of Minnesota Wild forward Erik Haula during NHL Game No. 122 in New York on Monday, October 27, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

Moore is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, will forfeit $51,859.75. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Rangers' John Moore faces in-person hearing

New York Rangers defenseman John Moore has accepted an in-person hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety as the result of an incident with Minnesota Wild forward Erik Haula at 7:12 of the second period at Madison Square Garden on Monday.

Moore was offered the opportunity for an in-person hearing as required by provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for any suspension that can exceed five games. The hearing will take place on Wednesday afternoon.

Moore received a match penalty on the play.

Sharks' Scott suspended two games

NEW YORK -- San Jose Sharks forward John Scott has been suspended for two games, without pay, for leaving the bench on a legal line change and starting an altercation with Anaheim Ducks forward Tim Jackman during NHL Game No. 120 in Anaheim on Sunday, October 26, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

Scott is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, will forfeit $17,073.18. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Sharks' Scott faces Player Safety hearing Monday

San Jose Sharks forward John Scott will have a phone hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday afternoon for leaving the players' bench on a legal line change to start an altercation during the third period at Honda Center on Sunday.

At 13:56 of the third period, Scott entered the playing surface on a line change and immediately engaged in a fight with Tim Jackman of the Anaheim Ducks. Scott was given an instigator minor, a fighting major, a game misconduct.

San Jose won the game 4-1.

The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: Leaving the players' bench on a legal line change to start an altercation. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.
