Kings aim to bounce back against Senators

Season series: This is the first meeting between these teams since Jan. 23, 2012, when Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick made 27 saves to lead his team to a 4-1 victory at Staples Center. The Ottawa Senators took the only meeting between the clubs in 2010-11, a 3-2 home win on Nov. 22, 2010. The teams will meet again this season at Canadian Tire Centre on Dec. 14.

Big story: Senators right wing Bobby Ryan, who was acquired in July in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Jakob Silfverberg, Stefan Noesen and a 2014 first-round pick, told the Ottawa Sun on Monday he and new linemates Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek have been reviewing videotape in an attempt to correct their mistakes. Ryan has one assist and four penalty minutes this season.

"Two games, I don't understand why it is such a panic button," Ryan told The Sun. "There is plenty to work out and plenty to work on. Two games isn't a long time. We're figuring it out. We gave up too many opportunities as a line [in a loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday]. There's a little bit of kinks to work out."

Team Scope:

Senators: The Senators continue their season-opening six-game road trip by visiting four Pacific Conference teams. They begin at Staples Center and continue against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, Anaheim Ducks on Sunday and Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday. The Senators are hoping to rebound following a 5-4 shootout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Following the trip, Ottawa will play 11 of its next 14 games at home. But goalie Craig Anderson told the Senators' website the team will only benefit from the West Coast swing.

"It gives a lot of guys time to come together and get to know each other quite a bit on the plane and on the road," Anderson said. "There are not a lot of distractions other than the ones you create with your teammates. It's usually a good thing and we're just looking forward to playing some games. We're going to have to be on the road at some points throughout the year and you might as well get it out of the way at the start of the season. That way, we're not dreading it come February and March."

Kings: Quick has been the subject of headlines for all the wrong reasons the past two games. On Monday, he allowed a bizarre 163-foot shorthanded goal to New York Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh early in the third period of a 3-1 loss at Staples Center. On the goal, Quick lost his stick following the simple dump-in off the boards and had the puck glance off his blocker into the net. The goal came at a pivotal moment and was the subject of much discussion following the Kings loss.

"You guys are writing a story on that one goal?" Quick asked reporters following the game. "The stick fell out of my hand. I tried to stop it with my blocker."

In a 5-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets three days earlier, Quick was pulled in favor of backup Ben Scrivens after yielding four goals on 27 shots. The Kings' standout goaltender will look to regain some confidence against the Senators.

Who's hot: Senators' Kyle Turris leads the team with four points (one goal, three assists) in two games. … Jeff Carter leads the Kings with two goals and 12 shots on goal in three games.

Injury report: Neither team reports any injuries.
