Detroit Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk had surgery on his right ankle Friday, general manager Ken Holland said.

Datsyuk sustained ruptured tendons after blocking a shot late in the season and returned from Russia last week to have the procedure, which was done in Charlotte, N.C. He will be in a cast or some form of immobilizing device for 4-6 weeks, according to Holland, who said the surgeon wants to evaluate Datsyuk again in three months.

“Once we get into the middle of September, the start of training camp, we’ll see where he’s at,” Holland said from Sunrise, Fla., prior to the NHL Draft.

Datsyuk, who turns 37 next month, had 26 goals and 65 points in 63 regular-season games and finished with three goals and five points in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games.
