Blackhawks back in Western Final, will play Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks advanced to the Western Conference Final for the first time in eight seasons with a 3-2 overtime win against the Calgary Flames in Game 5 of the Western Conference Second Round at Honda Center on Sunday.

The Ducks are making their first trip to the conference final since winning the Stanley Cup in 2007. They will face the Chicago Blackhawks, who they have never played in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Game 1 is Sunday at Honda Center (3 p.m. ET; NBC, CBC, TVA Sports).

Anaheim was led by forwards Corey Perry, whose 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) are the most in the playoffs, and Ryan Getzlaf (two goals, 10 assists).

Forward Matt Beleskey had a goal in each of the five games in the series against the Flames. The Ducks have had balanced scoring; nine players have at least two goals in the playoffs.

Goalie Frederik Andersen got his playoff-leading eighth victory Sunday and has a 1.96 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage in the playoffs.

Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau will be making his first trip to the conference final. He was coach of the Washington Capitals when they lost in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in 2009 and 2011. Anaheim was defeated in the second round last season by the Los Angeles Kings.

The Ducks defeated the Winnipeg Jets in four games in the first round and are 5-0 at Honda Center in the playoffs. They are the only team to have one loss in the playoffs, and have outscored opponents 17-4 in the third period and overtime.

Chicago defeated the Minnesota Wild in the second round and has reached the conference final in five of the past seven seasons, winning the Stanley Cup in 2010 and 2013. Last season, the Blackhawks lost Game 7 of the conference final in overtime to the Kings.

Forward Patrick Kane had four goals and forward Patrick Sharp had four assists against the Ducks in the regular season, when the Blackhawks won two of three games, allowing one goal in each. Goalie Corey Crawford was 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and .957 save percentage.

Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm and forward Rickard Rakell each scored a goal; forward Patrick Maroon had two assists. Andersen was 0-2-0 with a 3.52 GAA.

The Blackhawks will be without defenseman Michal Rozsival, who sustained a fractured left ankle in the second period last Thursday.

Kane, who after fracturing his left clavicle in late February was not expected back until the conference final at the earliest, is on a seven-game point streak, with seven goals and six assists in 10 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

The Blackhawks defeated the Nashville Predators in the first round.
