PENGUINS SCORE SEVEN UNANSWERED GOALS

The Pittsburgh Penguins scored seven consecutive goals to erase a 3-1 second-period deficit, including four scores in a span of 9:53 in the middle frame, en route to an 8-3 win against the New Jersey Devils. Pittsburgh tied the record for most goals at CONSOL Energy Center, equaling their own mark set six times before (last: March 27, 2013 vs. CAR, 8-3 win).

* Pittsburgh is the first team this season to record more than seven goals in a game and the first to score eight or more since the Calgary Flames defeated the Edmonton Oilers 8-1 on March 22 of last season.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Penguins scored seven straight goals in a game for the first time since Jan. 5, 2011 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. In that game, Evgeni Malkin opened the scoring seven seconds after the opening faceoff and Chris Kunitz netted a hat trick as the Penguins opened a 7-0 lead en route to an 8-1 win on home ice.

* Evgeni Malkin triggered the offensive explosion with his second-period goal to extend his point streak to eight games, his longest-ever stretch to start a season (4-7—11). Malkin has scored each of his goals on the power play to move into a share of the League lead in that category.

* Sidney Crosby was the only player with multiple goals and moved within one point of Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin (7-8—15) for the League points lead (7-7—14).

* Sophomore defenseman Olli Maatta notched a helper in the third period to extend his career-long assist streak to three games. He now has 1-5—6 to lead all Pittsburgh defensemen. It was announced Monday that Maatta will next week undergo surgery to remove a tumor from his neck.

* The Penguins are now 9-2-0 in their past 11 home games against the Devils.

LIGHTNING STRIKES SEVEN TIMES

Nikita Kucherov scored a goal in each period to record his first career hat trick and Tyler Johnson had a career-high four assists/points to power the Lightning to a 7-3 victory over the Arizona Coyotes in the first game of a four-game homestand.

* Kucherov is the second Lightning player to net a hat trick this season, following Steven Stamkos who netted three goals in a 7-1 win against Montreal on Oct. 13.

* Johnson moved into a share of the League lead with 11 assists, all of which have come on his career-best seven-game point streak. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Johnson is just the fourth Lightning player in the past 10 years to post at least four helpers in a game, following Martin St. Louis (three times, last: 4, Jan. 27, 2013), Vincent Lecavalier (4, Feb. 23, 2011) and Mark Recchi (5, Mar. 1, 2009).

* Brian Boyle found the back of the net twice, matching a career high established three times before (last: Nov. 9, 2010 vs. WSH). He also went 14-for-21 (67.0 percent) in the faceoff circle.

WILD REVERSAL OF FORTUNE

One night after letting a 3-0 third-period lead slip away in a loss to the New York Rangers, the Minnesota Wild rallied from two-goals down with three goals in the third period to skate to a 4-3 win against the Boston Bruins. Minnesota improved to 12-2-1 all-time against Boston, including a 7-1-0 mark at TD Garden.

* With the Wild trailing 3-1 in the third period, Zach Parise netted his fourth goal of the season followed by goals from Justin Fontaine and Marco Scandella. Scandella's third career game-winning goal extended his point streak to three games (2-2—4).

* Niklas Backstrom stopped 25 of 28 shots to improve to 5-0-1 in his career against the Bruins.

LITTLE'S THREE POINTS LEAD JETS

Bryan Little notched three assists, including a helper on Andrew Ladd's winning goal in the third period, as the Winnipeg Jets skated to a 4-3 win against the New York Islanders.

* Down 1-0 after 20 minutes, the Jets scored three straight goals in the second period, including two power-play goals. Winnipeg finished 2-for-4 with the man advantage after scoring just once in its previous 28 attempts this season.

* Little extended his point streak to four games (2-4—6) and eclipsed the 300-point mark for his career. He notched three points for the first time since March 24, 2013 (1-2—3 vs. TB) and three assists for the first time since March 5, 2012 vs. BUF.

* Ladd also scored Winnipeg's opening goal and now has 4-2—6 on his four-game point streak.

DOWN TO THE WIRE

Four of the 12 games Tuesday went past regulation, including overtime winners by the St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers, and shootout wins by the San Jose Sharks and Montreal Canadiens:

* Vladimir Tarasenko (3-1—4) netted his third goal of the game at 1:28 of overtime to record his first NHL hat trick and lift the Blues to a 4-3 win over the Stars. Tarasenko also scored the tying goal at 11:37 of the third period as the Blues rally from three one-goal deficits to win consecutive games for the first time this season.

* Tarasenko's first career overtime goal also gave him a career-high four points and made him the second Blue to notch a hat trick this season (also Jaden Schwartz, Oct. 18 at ARI). His plus-3 rating matches a career high. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Brett Hull was the last Blues player to cap a hat trick with an overtime goal when he scored all three goals in a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 9, 1997.

* Brayden Schenn notched his second career overtime goal to lift the Flyers to a 3-2 win over the Kings. Schenn, who was selected No. 5 by the Kings in 2009 and began his career with the club (9 GP), now has the winning tally in each of Philadelphia's last two games (Oct. 25 vs. DET). Ray Emery stopped 38 of 40 shots to improve to 4-0-1 with a 2.44 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage this season.

* Antti Niemi made 31 saves and stopped both shootout attempts and Patrick Marleau scored the deciding goal to lift the Sharks to a 3-2 win against the Colorado Avalanche. Joe Pavelski scored the clinching shootout marker to improve to 31-for-77 (40.3 percent) in his career; his 31 shootout goals are tied for ninth among active skaters. Marleau improved to 15-for-34 (34.9 percent) in career shootouts attempts, including eight decisive goals.

* Carey Price made 37 saves and stopped all three shootout attempts and Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau netted the decisive tally as the Montreal Canadiens edged the Calgary Flames 2-1 in Calgary. Parenteau improved to 13-for-27 (48.1 percent) with six career game-deciding goals while Price won his 22nd career tiebreaker. At 8-2-0 (16 points), the Canadiens remain tied with the Anaheim Ducks (8-2-0) atop the League standings.

MILLER RECORDS 300th NHL WIN

Ryan Miller stopped 29 of 30 shots he faced and Brad Richardson scored twice to lead the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-1 win against the Carolina Hurricanes. Miller improved to 6-1-0 this season and became the fourth active goalie to reach the 300-win milestone (also Roberto Luongo, 375; Evgeni Nabokov, 351; Henrik Lundqvist, 314).

* The Canucks improved to 7-0-0 at home versus the Hurricanes dating to a 4-1 loss on Oct. 15, 1999.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS FROM 12-GAME TUESDAY

* Devante Smith-Pelly netted his second career shorthanded goal at 11:32 of the third period and John Gibson stopped all 38 shots he faced as the Ducks earned a 1-0 win against the Chicago Blackhawks. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Gibson set a new Ducks record for saves by a rookie goaltender in a shutout, besting the previous mark of 24 set by Ilya Bryzgalov (Jan. 26, 2006, 2-0 vs. SJ).

* Erik Karlsson (1-1—2) broke a 2-2 deadlock in the third period as the Ottawa Senators scored three times to win 5-2 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Robin Lehner stopped 36 shots to move to 3-0-1 this season and Clarke MacArthur (1-2—3) matched a career high with three points (eight times, last: March 28, 2014 vs. CHI).

* Tyler Bozak (1-1—2) scored the eventual game-winning goal at 19:10 of the second period and the Toronto Maple Leafs added three goals in the third period en route to a 4-0 win against the Buffalo Sabres. Jonathan Bernier stopped all 10 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season. Per Elias, Toronto's 10 shots against match the fewest allowed in franchise history (Jan. 5, 2002 vs. OTT, 3-1 win).

* Blues forward Jori Lehtera (1-2—3) factored on all three goals in regulation to pick up his second three-point game of the season. Kevin Shattenkirk (0-2—2) also posted multiple points for St. Louis.

* Flyers forward Jakub Voracek recorded his third consecutive multiassist game to move into a share of the League lead with 11 assists. His second against the Kings was the 200th of his NHL career. Voracek leads the Flyers and shares third in the League with 13 points (2-11—13).

* Blue Jackets forward Ryan Johansen extended his point streak to nine games (5-7—12) to set a new franchise record to start a season. The nine-game stretch matches the longest of his career, set from Nov. 29 to Dec. 16 last season.

* Stars forward Tyler Seguin (1-1—2) scored his 100th NHL goal to extend his point streak to seven games (7-7—14). Teammates Jamie Benn (5-6—11, seven games) and Jason Spezza (2-9—11, six games) also continued their streaks.

COMMISSIONER BETTMAN'S STATEMENT ON GORDIE HOWE

National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman released the following statement regarding Detroit Red Wings legend Gordie Howe:

Kings forward Tyler Toffoli scored a shorthanded goal to extend his point streak to four games (3-5—8) . . . Arizona's Antoine Vermette recorded his 400th NHL point . . . Boston's David Krejci notched an assist to extend his point streak to seven games (3-6—9). Teammate Seth Griffith (2-1—3) had his first career multipoint game while Zach Trotman recorded his first NHL assist/point . . . Penguins defenseman Christian Ehrhoff skated in his 700th NHL game. . . Flyers forward Chris VandeVelde scored his second career goal and first since March 25, 2012 while with Edmonton. Captain Claude Giroux extended his point streak to three games (0-4—4) while Michael Raffl moved into a share of the team lead with his fifth goal . . . Islanders forward Brock Nelson had 1-1—2 and now has 6-6—12 in nine games this season while Kyle Okposo extended his point streak to four games (1-3—4) . . . Stars defenseman Trevor Daley (1-1—2) eclipsed 200 career points . . . Blackhawks goalie Scott Darling allowed only one goal for the second straight game. He has stopped 56 of 58 shots in his first two NHL games . . .
