Preseason roundup: Kings top Ducks in shootout

Los Angeles Kings goalie Martin Jones stopped Ryan Kesler in the shootout in his Anaheim Ducks debut to secure a 4-3 preseason win at Staples Center on Friday.

Tyler Toffoli and Dwight King scored in regulation and in the shootout for Los Angeles.

Kesler scored the game-tying goal with 8:10 left in the third period, 37 seconds after Toffoli gave the Kings a 3-2 lead.

Emerson Etem and Dany Heatley put Anaheim ahead 2-0, but that was equaled by second-period goals from Los Angeles' Jordan Nolan and King.

Kings goalie Martin Jones (25 saves) and Ducks goalie John Gibson (31 saves) each played the entire game.

Canadiens 3, Avalanche 2 (OT): Alex Galchenyuk scored 3:28 into overtime to give the Montreal Canadiens a 3-2 preseason win against the Colorado Avalanche at Bell Centre on Friday.

Montreal's P.K. Subban had a goal and two assists, including a tying goal with 2:18 remaining in the second period.

Tyson Barrie gave Colorado a 1-0 lead 12:59 into the first period. Max Pacioretty scored for Montreal to tie the game 8:07 into the second before Gabriel Landeskog put Colorado back in the lead at 10:18.

Canadiens goalie Carey Price allowed two goals on 10 shots. Peter Budaj stopped all 17 shots he faced in relief.

Reto Berra made 33 saves for the Avalanche.

Penguins 3, Wild 2 (OT): Brandon Sutter scored his second goal of the game 2:23 into overtime to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 3-2 preseason win against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.

Sutter put Pittsburgh ahead 1-0 lead with a first-period, power-play goal.

Thomas Vanek scored 33 seconds into in the second period, his first of the preseason with his new team, and Zach Parise scored 7:12 into the third, to give Minnesota a 2-1 lead. Pittsburgh's Oskar Sundqvist tied it 2-2 14 seconds later.

Darcy Kuemper allowed one goal facing 15 shots, and Ilya Bryzgalov finished with two goals allowed on 12, for the Wild.

Jeff Zatkoff made 16 saves for the Penguins. Simon Despres had two assists.

Flyers 4, Devils 0: Four players scored for the Philadelphia Flyers in a preseason win against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.

Power-play goals by Brayden Schenn, Vincent Lecavalier and Shayne Gostisbehere gave the Flyers a first-period lead. Scott Laughton added a second-period goal against Cory Schneider. Laughton and Jakub Voracek each had two assists.

Steve Mason (eight saves) and Rob Zepp (16 saves) combined for the shutout. Schneider stopped 28 of 32 shots playing the entire game.

Blue Jackets 5, Blues 4: The Columbus Blue Jackets scored three power-play goals and once shorthanded before holding on to defeat the St. Louis Blues in a preseason game at Scottrade Center.

First-period goals by Mark Letestu, Jared Boll, Ryan Craig and Fedor Tyutin, the last three on the power play, gave Columbus a 4-0 lead. A second-period shorthanded goal by Dana Tyrell made it 5-1.

Vladimir Tarasenko scored twice in the third period for St. Louis. Joakim Lindstrom and David Backes each had a goal, and Brian Elliott made 17 saves.

Curtis McElhinney (23 saves) and Anton Forsberg (seven saves) each allowed two goals for Columbus.

Red Wings 3, Blackhawks 2: Jimmy Howard made 26 saves for the Detroit Red Wings in a preseason win against the Chicago Blackhawks at Joe Louis Arena.

The game started 45 minutes later than scheduled because the Blackhawks encountered travel problems.

Tomas Nosek and Andrej Nestrasil each had a goal and an assist for Detroit. Tomas Tatar scored, and Justin Abdelkader had two assists.

Antti Raanta started in goal and stopped 21 of 22 shots for Chicago. Michael Leighton made 17 saves in relief, and Bryan Bickell and Garret Ross scored in the third period.

Predators 1, Lightning 0: Filip Forsberg's goal 3:17 into the first period, and a combined 22-save shutout by Pekka Rinne and Marek Mazanec, gave the Nashville Predators a preseason win against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Bridgestone Arena.

Kristers Gudlevskis made 31 saves for Tampa Bay.

Canucks 3, Flames 1: Eddie Lack stopped 20 shots in 29 minutes of action to help the vancouver Canucks to a preaseason win against the Calgary Flames on Friday at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Chris Higgins, Nicklas Jensen and Hunter Shinkaruk (a Calgary native) scored for Vancouver, which also got 10 saves from Joacim Eriksson in relief.

Sean Monahan scored a power-play goal for Calgary. Jonas Hiller (two goals allowed) and Brad Thiessen (one) each made 10 saves.
