Detroit Red Wings center Joakim Andersson is out indefinitely with a broken foot sustained when he was hit by Dominic Moore's shot during the second period of Detroit's 3-0 loss to the New York Rangers on Sunday.

The Red Wings have five centers on injured reserve: Andersson, Pavel Datsyuk (sore right knee), Henrik Zetterberg (back surgery), Darren Helm (upper body) and Stephen Weiss (sports hernia surgery). Detroit acquired veteran David Legwand from the Nashville Predators at the NHL Trade Deadline and will call up Cory Emmerton from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.

Riley Sheahan and Luke Glendening are the other healthy centers on a team fighting to make the playoffs for a 23rd consecutive season.

"It's a bad position, I guess," Andersson told reporters.

Andersson has seven goals and 15 points in 58 games for the Red Wings this season.
