The
Detroit Red Wings placed forward
Pavel Datsyuk on injured reserve Monday.
Datsyuk hasn't played since Dec. 22, when he suffered a broken right hand during a game against the
Vancouver Canucks. He's expected to miss about a month.
At the time he was injured, he led the Red Wings with 12 goals and 39 points.
Not seeing Datsyuk in the lineup for any amount of time is a strange sight, as he's missed just three games over the previous three seasons.
The Red Wings called up goaltender
Joey MacDonald from AHL Grand Rapids to fill Datsyuk's roster spot. He'll serve as the backup to
Jimmy Howard when the Red Wings play at Colorado on Monday.
