Six hours of coverage Saturday and Sunday paying tribute to Sakic's career

NEW YORK/TORONTO – Honoring the illustrious career of Colorado Avalanche center Joe Sakic, NHL Network will air 12 hours of Sakic-themed programming Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 6 p.m. ET. The coverage includes the re-airing of the long-time captain's announcement of his retirement, Saturday at 4 p.m. The two-hour live program features an in-depth look at Sakic's 20-year NHL career and is hosted by Dan Pollard and analyst Dave Reid, who played with Sakic on the Colorado Avalanche's 2001 Stanley Cup winning team. Additional guests scheduled to call in to the show include Ray Bourque, Steve Yzerman and Peter Forsberg.

Sakic's distinguished NHL career began when was selected by the Quebec Nordiques as the 15th pick in the 1987 Entry Draft. He made his League debut on Oct. 6, 1988 and remained with the franchise through its relocation to Colorado in 1995. Sakic went on to become the face of the franchise, leading the Avalanche to Stanley Cup titles in 1996 and 2001. The 13-time All-Star, who turned 40 on Tuesday, also won an Olympic gold medal in 2002 with Team Canada, the Hart Trophy, Lady Byng Memorial Trophy and Lester B. Pearson Award in 2001 and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1996.
