Ducks know momentum is fleeting entering Game 2

ANAHEIM -- The Anaheim Ducks have a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 Western Conference Final and are 9-1 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the idea of game-to-game momentum was not a rallying cry Tuesday.

"You start over every game in the playoffs," Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin said. "You can't think about what happened last game for very long. You have to refocus."

Anaheim defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 in Game 1 with depth scorers and goaltender Frederik Andersen leading the way. Game 2 is Tuesday at Honda Center (9 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).

Center Ryan Kesler did not skate during practice Monday but was on the ice Tuesday. Everyone skated for the Ducks except Beauchemin and captain Ryan Getzlaf. The Blackhawks did not hold a morning skate.

"You see what is happening in the Eastern Conference, the [New York] Rangers took Game 1 and then Tampa [Bay] took it to them last night," Ducks forward Kyle Palmieri said. "Momentum isn't a big factor over the course of a series. You take things away, like things you did right and what you did wrong, but for the most part momentum is just an in-game thing.

"I think we've learned that the last couple years, going up against Detroit two years ago and [Los Angeles] last year, every game was a different story. You learn and you see what is working, but at the same time the other team is going to make adjustments. You have a bit of an idea for a game plan and what you want to accomplish, but we know [the Blackhawks] are a great team over there."

Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said he does not expect any lineup changes or anything particularly out of the ordinary from either team.

"I don't think [the Blackhawks] are going to make any drastic changes, because I think what they do works," Boudreau said. "Hopefully we'll get better at the things we didn't do well last game, but we are who we are. Our DNA is not changing."
