DETROIT -- Bothered by an upper-body injury, Detroit Red Wings forward Daniel Alfredsson will not play in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference First Round series against the Boston Bruins at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday (7:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, TSN2, NESN, FS-D).

The best-of-7 series is tied 1-1.

Alfredsson did not practice Monday after playing 17:03 in Game 2 on Sunday. Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said he needed another day of rest.

Left wing Joakim Andersson will replace Alfredsson in the lineup and will start the game on a line with center Darren Helm and right wing Tomas Jurco.

Babcock is looking for Andersson to help the Red Wings penalty kill, which was 50 percent (2-for-4) in Game 2, a 4-1 Bruins victory.

"Andersson can help our penalty kill," Babcock said. "He's a good faceoff guy, he's a big body, knows how to play. I don't know whether he's going to play the whole game with Helm and Jurco, or if we'll move [David] Legwand there and play [Andersson] with [Helm] and [Drew Miller], we'll just see how it works."

Andersson had 17 points in 65 games during the regular season. He played in all 14 of Detroit's Stanley Cup Playoff games last year, contributing five points.

"It should help," Andersson said of his playoff experience from last season. "It was two good series last year. We played Game 7 against Anaheim and then Chicago, that's experience that we can use for sure."

The rest of Detroit's forward lines will stay as they were for the start of Game 2 in Boston, which means the Red Wings' "Kid Line" of Tomas Tatar, Riley Sheahan and Gustav Nyquist will get another shot to generate some offense.

Tatar, Sheahan and Nyquist have combined for 18 shots on goal but no points in the series while matched up the majority of the time against Boston's top line of David Krejci, Milan Lucic and Jarome Iginla.

Babcock should be able to get the matchups he wants in Game 3 with the last-change ability on home ice.

"I thought Sheahan's line did an outstanding job," Babcock said. "To me, Krejci, Lucic and Iginla are tough for a bunch of kids, and I thought those guys did a real good job. Maybe we can free them up a little bit."

Here is Detroit's projected lineup for Game 3:

Johan Franzen - Pavel Datsyuk - Justin Abdelkader

Tomas Tatar - Riley Sheahan - Gustav Nyquist

Joakim Andersson - Darren Helm - Tomas Jurco

Drew Miller - Luke Glendening - David Legwand

Niklas Kronwall - Brendan Smith

Kyle Quincey - Danny DeKeyser

Jakub Kindl - Brian Lashoff

Jimmy Howard

Jonas Gustavsson

Scratched: Todd Bertuzzi

Injured: Daniel Alfredsson (upper-body), Henrik Zetterberg (back), Jonathan Ericsson (hand), Daniel Cleary (knee)
