Islanders' Halak, Penguins' Fleury named to roster

New York Islanders goaltender Jaroslav Halak and Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury will serve as injury replacements at the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game to be played Jan. 25 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus (5 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).

Halak and Fleury will replace injured goalies Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators and Jimmy Howard of the Detroit Red Wings.

Halak, who will be making his first All-Star appearance, is 23-8-0 with a 2.22 goals-against average, .917 save percentage and four shutouts.

"It's a big honor to go to the All-Star Game and I'm really happy and going to enjoy it, that's for sure," Halak said. "I have a good record as a goalie but the five guys in front of you are doing their job too so it's a team record.

"We have more guys here that deserve to go [to Columbus]."

Fleury, who is making a second All-Star appearance, is 22-7-4 with a 2.16 GAA, .926 save percentage and League-leading six shutouts.

"It's always an honor when you get a chance to play with all those guys so I'm looking forward to it," Fleury said. "[Penguins general manager] Jim Rutherford waited for me [Wednesday] when I got to the rink and told me so it was good news to start the day."

Fleury credited his teammates and a defense-first approach for his success this year.

"I think I'm getting older and more experienced so I'm calmer out there too," Fleury said. "I haven't changed much, but have worked with my goalie coach, watched video and have tried different things here and there, but nothing major."

Rinne, who leads the NHL with 29 wins, sustained a sprained knee with 17:05 remaining in the third period on Tuesday against the Vancouver Canucks after crashing into the wall behind the net with Canucks forward Chris Higgins and Predators defenseman Anton Volchenkov. He will be reevaluated after the All-Star break, the Predators said Thursday.

Howard sustained a slight groin tear when he stretched to attempt to make a save in the first period against the Washington Capitals on Saturday. An ultrasound revealed the injury, Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said Tuesday. Howard is expected to be out 2-4 weeks.
