At the Rink: Blues at Stars

DALLAS -- Brian Elliott will start in goal for the St. Louis Blues against the Dallas Stars on Sunday at American Airlines Center (6 p.m. ET; FS-MW, FS-SW+).

Coach Ken Hitchcock confirmed the move following the 3-2 shootout victory against Dallas on Saturday night at Scottrade Center. David Backes scored the deciding goal in the ninth round, and goalie Jake Allen made 22 saves.

Elliott, who is 5-0 against the Western Conference this season, is starting for the first time since Dec. 19, when he made 36 saves in a 3-2 win against the Calgary Flames in St. Louis.

At the Rink: Bruins at Senators

OTTAWA -- The Ottawa Senators are expected to have forward Bobby Ryan in the lineup Sunday (5 p.m. ET; NESN, RDS2, TSN5) at Canadian Tire Centre against the Boston Bruins.

Ryan did not play in the 2-1 shootout loss against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. He had aggravated his broken left index finger in the 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Dec. 20.

Senators coach Dave Cameron said forward Curtis Lazar is day-to-day because of an undisclosed injury and will not play. Max McCormick, who was called up from Binghamton of the American Hockey League on Saturday, will replace Lazar in the lineup.

The Senators (17-12-6) and Bruins (19-11-4) will try to end two-game losing streaks Sunday.

At the Rink: Oilers at Flames

CALGARY -- The Calgary Flames can set a new team record for consecutive home wins when they host the Edmonton Oilers at Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday (9 p.m. ET; SN).

The Flames (16-16-2) have won 10 straight home games, tying the record set from Nov. 7-Dec. 12, 2006.

"We take pride playing on home ice and winning at home has just kind of just happened," forward Matt Stajan said. "We're obviously aware now of winning 10 or 11 in a row on home ice. We're just taking it one game at a time … it's cliché but that's all we're trying to do. Our goal is to get back into the playoff picture and we've done a good job doing that and home ice has been a key to that."

The Flames started 1-5-0 at home but haven't lost at the Saddledome since Oct. 30.

At the Rink: Coyotes at Avalanche

DENVER -- Colorado Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said he's curious to see how his players perform in the first period Sunday against the Arizona Coyotes at Pepsi Center (8 p.m. ET; FS-A, ALT2) in their first game in six days.

The Avalanche (17-17-1) practiced Saturday following the end of the holiday break but haven't played since a 7-4 loss Monday to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"We did a lot of rush plays and flow drills [Saturday], and at the end we started to click more," Roy said. "This morning I thought we were moving the puck better. I'm confident that we will have a good start."

Roy said the Coyotes (16-15-3) could have an early advantage because they played Saturday, a 4-3 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

At the Rink: Hurricanes at Blackhawks

CHICAGO -- Forward Marian Hossa will play for the Chicago Blackhawks against the Carolina Hurricanes at United Center on Sunday.

Hossa missed the Blackhawks' past two games with an upper-body injury, but said the four days off during the Christmas break helped him recover enough to play.

"It was nice break for my upper-body injury," Hossa said after participating in the morning skate. "Obviously, we had the nice break, a couple extra days definitely helped settle it down. Now, I just tested it on the ice and it felt great.

"It happened in a game, one thing," Hossa said. "Basically, it got worse in Buffalo, and after the game it was smarter to not play. Just take the break and make sure I get it back [feeling] normal."

At the Rink: Maple Leafs at Islanders

NEW YORK -- New York Islanders right wing Kyle Okposo will play against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Barclays Center on Sunday (6 p.m. ET; TVA Sports, SN, MSG+) after missing the past two games because of a lower-body injury. Islanders forward Steve Bernier will be a healthy scratch.

However, Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak was placed on injured reserve Sunday retroactive to Dec. 21 because of an upper-body injury. Thomas Greiss will start in net for the Islanders, who recalled Christopher Gibson from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League to serve as the backup goalie.

Okposo hasn't played since Dec. 17 at the Colorado Avalanche. He has eight goals and an Islanders-high 26 points this season.

"It was the plan to see how my body reacted with the week-plus off and once I skated [Saturday] I realized I was able to go, able to play and play my game," Okposo said.

Coach's Challenge: CBJ @ TBL - 6:53 of the Second Period

At 6:53 of the second period in the Blue Jackets/Lightning game, Columbus requested a Coach’s Challenge to review whether Tampa Bay was off-side prior to Steven Stamkos’ goal.

After reviewing all available replays and consulting with NHL Hockey Operations staff, the Linesman determined that the Lightning entered the attacking zone legally prior to the goal.

Therefore the original call stands – good goal Tampa Bay Lightning.

Since the Coach’s Challenge did not result in the original call being overturned, the Columbus Blue Jackets forfeit their time-out.

At the Rink: Oilers at Canucks

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks won't have No.1 goaltender Ryan Miller and top-pairing defenseman Christopher Tanev against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.

Coach Willie Desjardins labeled both "day to day," but indicated Miller could be out longer.

Miller left during a shootout against the Florida Panthers on Dec. 20 with what the team called cramps and didn't play Dec. 22 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He wasn't on the ice Saturday despite a three-day Christmas break, and while Desjardins didn't update the nature of Miller's injury, he expects him to be out "maybe a week."

At the Rink: Kings at Coyotes

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – When Arizona Coyotes center Martin Hanzal underwent back surgery in the spring, it was hoped that a lot of the injury issues that have plagued him during his career might be slowed as well.

Unfortunately, Hanzal continues to miss time leaving a huge hole in Arizona's top six forwards.

Hanzal will sit out for the sixth time in the past seven games and the ninth time this season when the Coyotes play the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday at Gila River Arena (9 p.m. ET; FS-W, FS-A).

Hanzal, who turns 29 in February, has played great hockey when available this season. He has 20 points in 26 games (tied for third on the team), been a huge part of both special teams units and wins 54.5 percent of his faceoffs for a team that craves puck possession.

"He plays hard and when you play as hard as he does the injuries are something we've learned to deal with," coach Dave Tippett said. "He's in great shape, the injuries he's had before haven't been an issue this year but a number of other things have affected him. It's just about getting on the other side of that."
