LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- United States national junior team coach Mark Osiecki will get his first up-close look at his roster Wednesday when the United States plays Sweden.

It's the first game for the U.S. since rosters were trimmed Monday, and Osiecki said he's looking forward to being behind the bench. He watched the split-squad games during the early part of camp from off the ice.

"It's going to be interesting for us, Donny [Granato, assistant coach] and I," Osiecki said. "It'll be our first time on the bench and seeing that."

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- After four days here, Sweden coach Rikard Gronborg is happy with what he's seen.

His team won its games against the two United States split squads and he's also been happy with the attitude he's seen from his players.

"I've been really impressed with the way that not only how they've performed on the ice but the work together," Gronborg told NHL.com. "They're really on it. A lot of questions, doing a lot of video. They watch video on their own lots of times instead of just asking the coaches. That's what coaches really like. They want to get better and make steps. That's what we feel has been very successful for us."

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Miikka Kiprusoff said the offer was too good to refuse. And that's why the former Calgary Flames goaltender has signed on to serve as goaltending coach for Finland's national junior team.

"It's been fun," he told NHL.com. "Head coach [Hannu Jortika] called me a couple months ago and he asked if I was interested to take a job and I was in right away. It was pretty cool to see these young, talented goalies and help them out a little bit."

In 12 NHL seasons with the San Jose Sharks and Flames, Kiprusoff won 319 games, most of any Finnish goaltender in NHL history. He backstopped the Flames to the 2004 Stanley Cup Final, won the 2006 Vezina Trophy and won a bronze medal with Finland at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Czech forward Pavel Zacha, a top prospect for the 2015 NHL Draft, will play with the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League, the team announced Tuesday.

Zacha was the first pick of the 2015 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft in July.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound center had four goals and four assists in 38 games with Liberec in the top professional league in the Czech Republic as a 16-year-old last season. He also played in five games for the Czech Republic at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship, and had three goals and two assists to help the Czechs win the silver medal at the 2014 IIHF World Under-18 Championship.

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Defenseman Ian McCoshen was one of 15 players released from the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp on Tuesday.

McCoshen, a Florida Panthers prospect, was released for what USA Hockey called precautionary reasons.

Also sent home were defensemen Michael Brodzinski (San Jose Sharks), Connor Clifton (Arizona Coyotes), Clint Lewis, Scott Savage and Thomas Vannelli (St. Louis Blues), and forwards Taylor Cammarata (New York Islanders), Ryan Hitchcock, Connor Hurley (Buffalo Sabres), Keegan Iverson (New York Rangers), Vinni Lettieri, Sean Malone (Buffalo Sabres), Ryan MacInnis (Arizona Coyotes), Michael McCarron (Montreal Canadiens) and Austin Poganski (St. Louis Blues).

"That's the toughest part of it," United States coach Mark Osiecki said. "There's a lot of good hockey players. Every kid here is a talented hockey player and they're going to be talented hockey players in the future. It's the unfortunate part of it right now, you're trying to trim it down a bit to look at other players. The players sent home, not by any means are they off and not an option. They'll definitely be looked at. They're tremendous hockey players."

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Hannu Jortikka hasn't been the coach of Finland's national junior team for very long, but he's starting to learn who his key players are very quickly.

Chief among them is Kasperi Kapanen, the talented forward taken by the Pittsburgh Penguins with the 22nd pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

Kapanen scored to put Finland up 3-1 in the second period and the Finns defeated USA White 4-3 on Monday.

"He is a big prospect," Jortikka told NHL.com. "Everybody can see his speed and his skill."

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Sweden coach Rikard Gronborg said he challenged a few of his leaders to step up their play, and Jacob de la Rose, Robert Hagg and Lucas Wallmark played big roles in a 6-2 defeat of USA Blue on Monday.

De la Rose (Montreal Canadiens), the team captain, had two assists; Wallmark (Carolina Hurricanes), an alternate captain who joined de la Rose on the top line, had a goal and an assist. Hagg (Philadelphia Flyers), also an alternate captain, didn't have a point but displayed a hard, accurate shot at even strength and on the power play and controlled the pace of the game from his defense spot.

"They are the core of the team," Gronborg said. "I'll go out and say that pretty easily. I challenged them a little bit today. Wallmark was good in both games, the other two I challenged a little bit and they stepped up. I know they're character players so you know you can do that. They played excellent [Monday]. That shows a bit of the character of those players."

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- The USA White team will look to get back in the win column when it faces Finland on Monday.

Thatcher Demko (Vancouver Canucks) will start in goal for USA White and play about half the game, with Evan Cowley (Florida Panthers) playing the second half.

Also in the USA White lineup is Auston Matthews, the 16-year-old center who will start on a line between 2015 NHL Draft prospect Ryan Hitchcock and Nick Schmaltz (Chicago Blackhawks).

Kasperi Kapanen, taken by the Pittsburgh Penguins with the 22nd pick of the 2014 draft, is on the top line for Finland.

BROSSARD, Quebec -- Three of the top four picks from the 2014 NHL Draft are scheduled to be in action Tuesday when the Canadian national junior team begins the competitive component of its summer development camp.

Canada will be breaking its group of 41 players taking part in the camp at the Montreal Canadiens' training facility just outside Montreal into two teams for games Tuesday and Wednesday against the Czech Republic and Russia.

The first group scheduled to face the Czech Republic on Tuesday at Ed Meagher Arena on the campus of Concordia University in Montreal includes defenseman Aaron Ekblad (Florida Panthers) and forwards Sam Reinhart (Buffalo Sabres) and Sam Bennett (Calgary Flames), the first, second and fourth picks in this year's draft.

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- The USA Blue squad will go for its second straight win when it faces Sweden in the first of two games today at the Olympic Training Center.

Brendan Burke (Arizona Coyotes) and Brandon Halverson (New York Rangers) will split time in goal.

Top Montreal Canadiens prospect Jacob de la Rose will start on the top line, along with Lucas Wallmark (Carolina Hurricanes) and Victor Olofsson (Buffalo Sabres).
