Demko thrilled to be drafted by Canucks

Goalie Thatcher Demko completed his freshman season at Boston College in 2013-14. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Demko went 16-5-3 with a 2.24 goals-against average and .919 save percentage and earned All-Hockey East Rookie Team honors and Hockey East honorable mention. Demko, who played his minor hockey in Southern California before joining the United States National Team Development Program in 2012-13, is No. 1 on NHL Central Scouting's final list of the top North American goalies eligible for the 2014 NHL Draft. He has offered to maintain a blog for NHL.com that will chronicle his season leading up to the 2014 NHL Draft.

PHILADELPHIA -- Hello hockey fans. It's been an interesting last two days, to say the least.

I'm a pretty even-keeled guy so I felt OK Friday. In the morning I went to breakfast with some friends and family and then we just lounged around the hotel having a good time. My dad was more nervous than I was.

Then around 5 o'clock I got my suit on, got all dressed up. Once we got to the building and I sat down in my seat, that's when the nerves started to kick in. It's tough just sitting through it because you don't know. It's all a waiting game.

Demko hopes to be picked early

PHILADELPHIA -- Hello hockey fans!

I'm writing to you from the prospects media availability at the Constitution Center in Philadelphia on Thursday, less than 24 hours from the start of the 2014 NHL Draft at Wells Fargo Center.

I won't lie. Being drafted in the first round would be really cool not only for myself and my family, but my teammates at Boston College. I don't think goalies are taken high in the draft because it's risky with guys not being able to work out, but it would be really cool to go in the first round.

Hey guys!

I am heading out to the NHL Scouting Combine [on Monday]. I've heard it's a good experience and I'm very excited. I've talked to some friends who went during their draft years so I think I have a little bit of an idea as to what to expect.

It was a fun time in Philadelphia, but obviously it didn't turn out the way we wanted it to -- we lost 5-4 to Union College in the first semifinal at the Frozen Four. That's how it goes sometimes.

Hey guys!

It's been a crazy couple of months. We finished first in Hockey East, but got eliminated from the league playoffs in the quarterfinals by Notre Dame. It was considered an upset, but our team used it as a wake-up call.

Demko: 'Awesome experience' at World Juniors

Demko has offered to maintain a monthly blog for NHL.com that will chronicle his season leading up to the 2014 NHL Draft.

Hi guys.

Going to Sweden for the World Junior Championship was an absolutely awesome experience. Obviously finishing fifth wasn't the outcome the team wanted but I'm proud of every guy.

I didn't play any minutes over in Malmo but that's not an excuse to stop getting better as a player. I made sure that I skated every morning with the goalie coach and I got some time in the gym to lift weights when I could.

Hi guys.

This has been a crazy month. The team has been progressing great and we still have a lot more potential to works toward. We had a bit of a slot start to the season, but since the start of November we’ve been real good. We won our first five games to start the month, and we’re 4-1-1 on the season in the conference, so that’s been a good thing.

Demko enjoyed time with fellow top U.S. prospects

Hi fans!

Well, I have some good news. Team Mark Johnson, the team I played for at this year's All-American Prospects Game in Pittsburgh, earned a 5-2 win over Team Joe Mullen.

It was really an exciting game and I was so glad to have the opportunity to participate. Playing in front of 200 NHL scouts is something to take back and learn from. I know there's going to be scouts at all the games this year too, so hopefully that can carry over and I'll learn from the experience. Playing with a bunch of elite American prospects is always fun. We're always rooting for the Americans in the draft so it's good to meet some of these guys early on before the season starts.
