Demko: 'Awesome experience' at World Juniors

Thatcher Demko is a goaltender playing his freshman season with Boston College. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder played his minor hockey in southern California before joining the U.S. National Team Development Program last season. Demko has offered to maintain a monthly blog for NHL.com that will chronicle his season leading up to the 2014 NHL Draft.

Hi guys.

Going to Sweden for the World Junior Championship was an absolutely awesome experience. Obviously finishing fifth wasn't the outcome the team wanted but I'm proud of every guy.

I didn't play any minutes over in Malmo but that's not an excuse to stop getting better as a player. I made sure that I skated every morning with the goalie coach and I got some time in the gym to lift weights when I could.

I also continued to be a student of the game. I kept a notebook and jotted down what I saw and what I felt and some things that I can do better if I'm lucky enough to get a chance to play in the World Juniors next year.

I met some great people and created memories I'll never forget.
