Flames recall McGrattan, assign Aliu

The Calgary Flames announced Friday they have recalled right wing Brian McGrattan from the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League and reassigned Akim Aliu.

The Flames acquired McGrattan a day earlier from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Joe Piskula. McGrattan has played two games with the Predators and six games with the Milwaukee Admirals (American Hockey League) this season.

Brodeur likely won't join Devils on road trip

New Jersey Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello told The (Bergen) Record that goaltender Martin Brodeur remains day-to-day with a sore back, and he does not anticipate Brodeur joining the team on its current road trip.

Brodeur has not played since removing himself during warm-ups prior to the Devils' game Feb. 23 against the Washington Capitals.

Canucks claim Sestito off waivers from Flyers

The Vancouver Canucks announced Friday they have claimed left wing Tom Sestito off waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers.

In a corresponding move, the organization reassigned forward Andrew Ebbett to the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves.

Devils activate Carter off injured reserve

The New Jersey Devils on Friday activated forward Ryan Carter off injured reserve and assigned forward Tim Sestito to the team's American Hockey League affiliate in Albany.

Carter, who has been out of the lineup since suffering a concussion Feb. 18, likely will resume his usual role on the third line alongside Stephen Gionta and Steve Bernier when the Devils travel to First Niagara Center to face the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.

Green out for Capitals' game Saturday

Rangers send Kreider to AHL; Nash could play

The New York Rangers on Thursday sent forward Chris Kreider to the Connecticut Whale, the team's American Hockey League affiliate.

Kreider has two points in 11 games this season.

This move could mean Rick Nash, who has missed the past four games with an undisclosed injury, could be ready to return to the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. At Thursday's morning skate, Nash said he would be a game-time decision.

Capitals claim Volpatti off waivers from Canucks

The Washington Capitals on Thursday claimed forward Aaron Volpatti off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks.

Volpatti, 27, has recorded one goal and 28 penalty minutes in 16 games with Vancouver this season. The native of Revelstoke, British Columbia, ranked second on Vancouver in penalty minutes this season and has collected three goals, one assist and 81 penalty minutes in 54 career NHL games with the Canucks.

The 6-foot, 215-pound forward tallied 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) and 91 penalty minutes in 61 career AHL games with Manitoba. He spent four seasons playing for Brown University in the NCAA and was named to the ECAC All-Academic team his first three seasons before being named team captain for his senior season.

Volpatti was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Vancouver on March 22, 2010.

Capitals send Grubauer, Wellman to Hershey

One day after making his NHL debut, the Washington Capitals on Thursday sent goaltender Philipp Grubauer back to Hershey of the American Hockey League.

Grubauer, called up early Wednesday to play in place of an ill Michal Neuvirth, replaced Braden Holtby in the second period of Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, stopping all 14 shots he faced.

The Capitals also sent forward Casey Wellman to Hershey.
