Capitals send Grubauer, Wellman to Hershey

One day after making his NHL debut, the Washington Capitals on Thursday sent goaltender Philipp Grubauer back to Hershey of the American Hockey League.

Grubauer, called up early Wednesday to play in place of an ill Michal Neuvirth, replaced Braden Holtby in the second period of Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, stopping all 14 shots he faced.

The Capitals also sent forward Casey Wellman to Hershey.

Quote of the Day

This is a big year for us in a lot of ways. You can see Garth and management really trying to find that solution to get us into the playoffs and consistently have that. The pressure is great. You have to enjoy it. It just means there's a great opportunity ahead of you.

— Islanders captain John Tavares
