DETROIT (AP) -The Detroit Red Wings came out fast after a long break, but couldn't finish in regulation.
Detroit came back after blowing a 2-0 lead late in the third period
"We shouldn't have let them get those two goals," said Zetterberg.
Jiri Hudler had a goal and an assist in regulation for Detroit, and Dan Cleary scored the other goal. Chris Osgood made 28 saves.
The Red Wings' last game was a 4-1 win in Calgary on Nov. 1.
"After five days off, I thought we'd struggle early and the first half we were great, skating good." said Osgood. "The second half, we didn't have our legs, weren't skating, and they came at us pretty hard."
Detroit outshot Nashville 30-14 in the first two periods.
Datsyuk scored on a forehand after a move, and Zetterberg on a backhand following a fake. It was the first shootout goal of the season for both players.
"It was about time I scored a (shootout) goal," said Zetterberg. "Pavel scored a nice goal, and I finally put one in."
Alexander Radulov and J.P. Dumont were both unsuccessful for the Predators.
Ryan Suter and Dumont scored for Nashville, and Radulov had two assists. Chris Mason stopped 43 shots.
"I think that was a huge step for us," Mason said. "Detroit doesn't give up many two-goal leads for us in the third period. It might not have been our strongest game, but we hung around and kept working."
Suter's second goal of the season put Nashville on the board with 7:32 remaining. His one-time slap shot from the point beat Osgood.
"We needed something," Suter said. "Once we scored, that gave us a little jump."
Dumont tied the game with 1:24 left, when he put in a puck from Osgood's left at the side of the net.
Cleary's power-play goal gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead 8:40 into the game. He poked the rebound of his original attempt past Mason. It was Cleary's third goal.
Hudler's 5-on-3 power-play goal made it 2-0 with 1:17 left in the second period. Tomas Holmstrom's shot hit Mason's mask and bounced in off of Hudler, for his fourth goal of the season.
"I don't think any of it was fantastic. I've been nervous for five days," said Detroit coach Mike Babcock. "I knew this was coming. I was scared about it."
Zetterberg, who leads the NHL with 25 points, also assisted on Hudler's goal to give him at least a point in all 15 games. That's a new Red Wings record for a point streak starting the season. The previous mark was 14 by Norm Ullman in 1960-61.
"It's fun to break records," Zetterberg said. "Easier to do it when you're winning and playing with good players."
Notes: Dominik Hasek, who has been resting a sore hip, was ready to play, but the Red Wings stayed with Osgood, who has won all eight of his starts this season. ... Nashville forwards Jason Arnott, and David Legwand have been placed on the NHL All-Star fan ballot.
