BOSTON (AP) - Mika Noronen earned another chance after winning his first start of the season for the Buffalo Sabres.

Noronen made 20 saves and Henrik Tallinder scored with 4:21 left in the third period to help the Sabres beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 on Saturday night.

"I'm happy for him," Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said. "It's been a long time."

Ruff said as the schedule gets tougher, Noronen will get another start.

"It was a long day," Noronen said. "The first one is kind of tough, especially when you've been waiting in the wings for almost two months."

The win was Buffalo's season-high third straight and sent the Bruins to their fifth consecutive loss. Boston has led or been tied in the third period of four of the losses.

"It seems like the way it's going now, if we made mistakes it ends up being in the net," Boston coach Mike Sullivan said. "We're trying to play as aggressive as we can. We just have channel our emotions."

Tallinder fired a shot from the point that beat goalie Andrew Raycroft, who was screened on the play, inside the left post.

"No, not really," said Raycroft when asked if he saw the winning shot. "It's just so frustrating. There's nothing I can do. I'm just searching. I just can't seem to find the puck."

Raycroft made 21 saves.

The Bruins pulled Raycroft with just over a minute left, but failed to get a good shot at Noronen.

The Bruins were booed as they left the ice after the loss.

"We're not looking forward to seeing them boo us at the end of the night, that's for sure," Raycroft said. "We understand why."

Daniel Briere and Ales Kotalik also scored for Buffalo. Joe Thornton and P.J. Axelsson scored for Boston, which fell to 1-8-1 in Northeast Division games.

The Sabres had taken a 2-1 lead on Briere's goal 12:29 into the second period, but Boston tied it when Alexsson scored off the rebound of Andrew Alberts' shot with 27 seconds left in the period.

The Sabres had the only goal of the first period when Kotalik beat Raycroft with a slap shot from the point for a power-play score. The puck appeared to knuckle as it slipped inside the right post.

Boston tied it 1-1 on Thornton's power-play goal 3:08 into the second period. Thornton, positioned at the top right of the crease, redirected Jiri Slegr's shot.

Raycroft lost his fourth straight start.

Notes: Boston defenseman David Tanabe, acquired from Phoenix Friday night for C Dave Scatchard, played and wore No. 55. "He did a nice job," Sullivan said. "It's tough to fly across the country and play for a team you just met."... Buffalo LW Taylor Pratt, who scored his first three goals of the season Thursday in a win over Washington, was scoreless. ... The Sabres have scored a power-play goal in 13 of the last 14 games.
