DALLAS (AP) - Marty Turco credited his teammates' defensive approach for his 22nd career shutout.

Turco made 16 saves and Junior Lessard scored his first NHL goal as the Dallas Stars beat Edmonton 4-0 Monday night, ending the Oilers' five-game winning streak.

The Stars held the Oilers to their season low for shots, and Dallas got a goal and an assist each from Mike Modano and Stephane Robidas.

"Tonight it was great to see the guys play in a dominating way," Turco said.

The Stars have won a season-best three straight by a combined score of 16-3, and Turco has been in the nets for all three.

Turco is bouncing back from some lackluster early performances, compiling a 0.97 goals-against average in the last three games.

"His focus, his mental preparation has been there," Modano said. "There's a lot of pressure, a lot riding on him. It's a tough thing and he has to find a way to deal with it. He has to keep proving himself."

Jussi Jokinen added a power-play goal for the Stars.

"That was a pretty solid game on our part," Dallas coach Dave Tippett said. "The last three games, we've put a lot of building blocks in place. We've just got to keep building on it."

Edmonton, which had won in its previous two trips to Dallas, is 8-34-4-1 all-time on the road in the regular season against the Stars.

Turco was called on for some key stops, knocking the puck away from Jarret Stoll on a breakaway midway through the second period, and denying Ryan Smyth from close range at 4:20 of the final period to preserve Dallas' first shutout of the season.

Turco has stopped 61 of 64 shots over the last three games. He allowed five goals in a home loss to Edmonton on Oct. 28.

"Confidence is a big part of the game," Smyth said. "He had it tonight. The other night I thought he was fighting it."

Jokinen's deflection of Jason Arnott's shot from the left point while Dallas held a man advantage produced the game's first goal at 12:24 of the opening period.

Lessard, playing his fifth NHL game, batted Modano's centering pass past Oilers goaltender Jussi Markkanen at 17:00 of the first period for Lessard's first NHL point, giving Dallas a 2-0 edge.

The Stars dominated the first period with a 14-2 shots advantage.

"It was just a matter of us getting more pucks on the net," Smyth said. "They were good defensively and at key times Turco made the saves."

Robidas' first goal of the season on the backhand at 14:44 of the second period extended Dallas' lead to 3-0.

Modano's rebound at 1:48 of the third period for his seventh goal of the season made it 4-0. At that point, Oilers coach Craig MacTavish pulled Markkanen and gave backup Mike Morrison his first NHL action.

Edmonton's depleted corps of defensemen is missing Marc-Andre Bergeron (broken finger), Cory Cross (sprained knee) and Igor Ulanov (broken toe). Defenseman Chris Pronger played despite a bruised right foot.

"You can only take it so far," Oilers left wing Raffi Torres said of using injuries as an excuse. "You still have to show up."

Notes: Centers Michael Peca (concussion) and Marty Reasoner (swollen right) are also out for Edmonton. ... Dallas had lost three of its previous four at home. ...The 16 shots allowed were the fewest by the Stars this season. ...Edmonton has been shut out twice this season.
