BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- The Buffalo Sabres have suddenly found the back of the net as well as the win column.
Curtis Brown, Chris Drury and Dmitri Kalinin each had a goal and an assist to lead the Sabres to a 5-2 victory over the Anaheim Mighty Ducks on Friday night.
Miroslav Satan and Daniel Briere also scored for Buffalo, which has won four of five and scored 19 goals during that span.
"I think guys are gaining confidence as things are going better," Brown said. "When that happens, guys are going to make more plays with the puck. A few weeks ago when we were going bad we would just dump the puck in."
The Sabres, who tied a franchise record with seven straight losses in December, have captured nine of a possible 12 points over their last six games.
"We have to keep up this momentum to get back in the picture," coach Lindy Ruff said.
Heading into Friday's game, Buffalo was in 13th place in the Eastern Conference, seven points out of a playoff spot.
Keith Carney and Andy McDonald scored for the Mighty Ducks, who had won two straight.
"We had a couple of good wins on this road trip and we had some momentum," Carney said. "We couldn't sustain it today. We made some mistakes that cost us."
In a game in which the momentum kept shifting, Buffalo was able to thwart two Anaheim comeback bids.
After Drury opened the scoring with a short-handed goal at 9:42 of the first period, Carney tied it just 21 seconds later while the Ducks were still on a power play.
It was Carney's first goal since last Jan. 9 against Colorado.
Brown put Buffalo up 2-1 just 16 seconds into the second with his sixth goal, and Kalinin boosted the lead with a wrist shot that beat Martin Gerber just more than two minutes later.
Anaheim made another charge after McDonald scored his eighth of the season with 2:14 to go in the second, but Satan countered with his team-leading 14th goal 35 seconds later.
After Carney turned the puck over at the blue line, Satan skated in and made a move on Sergei Fedorov at the right circle, freeing himself for a quick wrist shot that beat Gerber on the glove side.
"It's a game of momentum," Brown said. "At that point it was 3-2 and Miro made a world class play and put it top shelf."
The Sabres have scored eight goals in the second period in their last two games.
Gerber allowed five goals on 33 shots in losing for the third time in four games. It was the first time in 29 contests that he has given up more than three goals.
"I know I can play better," Gerber said. "They were sharp in our end."
Martin Biron made 24 saves for his second straight win.
"When we play with momentum and get scoring chances we're successful," Biron said. "Everybody's contributing and chipping in. It came from the defense out tonight, and the creativity on offense was great to see."
Briere capped the scoring with 5:45 remaining in the third with his 12th.
Jochen Hecht added two assists for the Sabres.
"We're making strides," Ruff said. "We've been getting more shots at the net and more people at the net. It's starting to pay off."
The Mighty Ducks are 2-4 in their last six, and the defending Western Conference champions are in last place in the Pacific Division with 35 points.
"I thought the game started OK but we turned the puck over too much," Anaheim coach Mike Babcock said. "I thought we had good chances early, then the Sabres took over the game."
Buffalo is 7-0-2 in its last nine against Anaheim, including a 5-2 win on Oct. 24.
"They've been playing good hockey lately so it was a huge effort by us," Brown said.
