Panthers aim to gain ground on Bruins in wild card
Florida Panthers vs. Boston Bruins

PANTHERS (35-26-15) at BRUINS (38-25-13)

Season series: The Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers have each won a 2-1 game that went beyond regulation. Bruins forward Brad Marchand scored 3:27 into overtime for Boston’s win at TD Garden, then Panthers forward Brandon Pirri had the only goal of the shootout when Florida won at BB&T Center.

Panthers team scope: Florida trails Boston by four points for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. Each team has six regular-season games left. This is the third game in four days and fourth in six for the Panthers and the finale of a five-game road trip on which they're 2-1-1 following a 4-2 win Sunday against the Ottawa Senators. Roberto Luongo could be back in goal after getting an unexpected day off. Veteran backup Dan Ellis made 25 saves and is 4-2-1. Forwards Jonathan Huberdeau (2-4-6) and Jaromir Jagr (2-3-5) have four-game point streaks. The Panthers conclude the regular season with a five-game homestand.

Bruins team scope: This is the third game in four days and fourth in six for Boston, which had a productive weekend. The Bruins ended an 0-3-3 skid with wins Saturday against the New York Rangers and Sunday against the Carolina Hurricanes to jump back into a playoff position. After this game, the Bruins will play four of their final five regular-season games on the road. Goalie Tuukka Rask, who left in the second period Saturday because of a migraine and dehydration, returned Sunday to make 30 saves in a 2-1 overtime win. Rookie David Pastrnak scored the decisive goal. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the 18-year-old is the first teenager to score an overtime goal for the Bruins in the regular season. Forward Ryan Spooner has four goals in his past six games.
