Rangers, Capitals look to rebound from losses
Washington Capitals vs. New York Rangers

CAPITALS (40-25-10) at RANGERS (47-20-7)

Season series: The New York Rangers have won the first two games against the Washington Capitals, once in each arena. Rangers forward Rick Nash has three goals, including the game-winner in the prior game played at Madison Square Garden. Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin has a goal in each game.

Capitals team scope: Washington is three points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders in the Metropolitan Division. The second-place Penguins would have home ice in the Eastern Conference First Round if the Stanley Cup Playoffs started Sunday. The Capitals look to bounce back from a 4-3 loss Saturday to the Nashville Predators in which they fell behind 3-0 in the first period and goalie Braden Holtby was pulled. "We have to have the mindset that we're not in the playoffs, that we're not going to make the playoffs unless we start playing good hockey and winning hockey games," said forward Troy Brouwer, who scored twice against Nashville. If Holtby starts it would be his NHL-leading 66th of the season.

Rangers team scope: Cam Talbot will get the start in goal after Henrik Lundqvist returned from a vascular injury to start a 4-2 loss Saturday against the Boston Bruins. Lundqvist allowed three goals on 14 shots in the first period and one goal on 16 shots the remainder of the game. Nash scored his first goal in nine games to reach 40 on the season for the third time in his career. His next goal will tie his career high set with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2003-04, his second NHL season. The Rangers are eight points ahead of the Penguins and Islanders in the race for the Metropolitan title. They have a game in hand on the Penguins and two games on the Islanders.
