Capitals continue chase for home ice vs. Predators
Nashville Predators vs. Washington Capitals

PREDATORS (46-21-8) at CAPITALS (40-24-10)

Season series: In Barry Trotz's first game against the Nashville Predators since becoming Washington Capitals coach, the Predators defeated the Capitals 4-3 at Bridgestone Arena. The Predators trailed 3-2 with under five minutes remaining in the third period but rallied on goals from defenseman Mattias Ekholm and forward James Neal.

Predators team scope: Nashville recalled forward Kevin Fiala from Milwaukee of the American Hockey League on Friday under emergency conditions. The Predators scored two goals in the first period Thursday and held on to defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2. It was Nashville's third straight victory after losing nine of its previous 11 (2-8-1). The win gave goalie Pekka Rinne 40 on the season, the second time in his NHL career he has reached that mark.

Capitals team scope: Forward Jay Beagle did not practice Friday and will miss this game and Sunday against the New York Rangers, according to the Washington Post. He has missed the past six games with an upper-body injury, and Trotz said Beagle will travel on a three-game road trip that begins April 2. Washington assigned defenseman Dmitry Orlov to Hershey of the American Hockey League on Friday for a conditioning stint. Saturday will be forward Curtis Glencross' 500th NHL game. The Capitals are fourth in the Metropolitan Division, one point behind the Pittsburgh Penguins and three behind the New York Islanders. "We've got a great opportunity," Trotz told the Capitals website. "… Let's see what we can do in the next eight (games) to maybe get home-ice advantage."
