Kings attempt to slow down Lightning attack
Los Angeles Kings vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

KINGS (4-2-0) at LIGHTNING (3-2-0)

TV: FS-W, SUN

Season series: This is the first of two meetings this season. The Los Angeles Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning last faced off Feb. 7, 2012, when the Kings earned a 3-1 victory behind the efforts of goalie Jonathan Quick, who made 24 saves. The teams meet again Nov. 19 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Big story: One area Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper would like to see improvement in is the team's penalty kill, which ranks 26th in the NHL. The Lightning allowed three power-play goals to the Pittsburgh Penguins in a 5-4 loss on Saturday and have now allowed seven power-play goals in 22 times short (31.8 opponents' percentage). The Kings will enter the game with the ninth-best power play in the League, scoring at a 25-percent efficiency through six games. Tampa Bay had three separate one-goal leads in the game and failed to hold on as the Penguins scored three times in the third period, with the final two coming on power-play chances after penalties by Alex Killorn and Richard Panik.

"We got a young team and this is a team sport," Cooper said. "Guys take penalties, and do I like the penalties that were taken [against the Penguins]? Absolutely not. Is it unacceptable? It is. In saying that, if we kill one of those off, we are [going to overtime]."

Team Scope:

Kings: Goalie Ben Scrivens, who was acquired in an offseason trade that sent Jonathan Bernier to the Toronto Maple Leafs, notched a shutout in his first start between the pipes for his new employer on Sunday in a 3-0 victory over the Florida Panthers. Scrivens made 20 saves to notch his third career goose egg. Scrivens has yet to be scored upon this season in two appearances. He also came on in relief of Jonathan Quick and stopped all five shots he faced in a 5-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Oct. 4.

"You can't give enough credit to the guys in front," Scrivens said. "They played extremely well, and all I had to do was focus on stopping the puck and seeing it well. I was fortunate I didn't give up any bad rebounds, and the rebounds [I did allow] the guys were right there to clear them away from in front of me."

Lightning: The fact Tampa Bay is just one game over .500 hasn't deterred Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis. Stamkos (seven points) has scored four goals over the past two games and St. Louis owns a four-game point streak (two goals, five assists). Tampa Bay is hopeful that goalie Ben Bishop (lower body) will be available against Los Angeles. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Bishop was on the ice for about 20 minutes before Saturday's morning skate and felt good. The 26-year-old goalie was injured on Thursday while attempting to stop a breakaway goal by Florida forward Jonathan Huberdeau in the third period.

Who's hot: Valtteri Filppula has a point in four of the Lightning's five games this season (four goals, one assist). … After losing two of his first three starts of the season, Kings goalie Quick has won two straight, allowing just four goals on 53 shots in victories over the Ottawa Senators and Carolina Hurricanes.

Injury report: Bishop (lower body) is day-to-day and might be ready for Tuesday's game. Forward Tom Pyatt (broken collarbone) and defenseman Brian Lee (knee) are out. … There are no injuries of note for the Kings.
