Jets look to extend division lead against Hurricanes
Winnipeg Jets vs. Carolina Hurricanes

JETS (17-14-2) at HURRICANES (15-13-2)

TV: TSN-JETS, FS-CR

Last 10: Winnipeg 6-3-1; Carolina 4-5-1

Season series: This marks the second of four meetings between the Southeast Division rivals. The clubs will again meet on Saturday at MTS Centre. The Jets won the series opener on Feb. 21 in Raleigh, 4-3, when captain Andrew Ladd had a goal and two assists and Blake Wheeler scored twice.

Big story: The Staal brothers in Carolina, Eric and Jordan, wore visors at practice last Friday at Raleigh Center Ice with the intention of wearing them regularly for the first time in their NHL careers beginning Tuesday against Winnipeg. The decision was obviously influenced by the events surrounding their injured brother, Marc, of the New York Rangers. Marc Staal was hit in the right eye with a puck during a game on March 5 against the Philadelphia Flyers at Madison Square Garden and remains out indefinitely.

"It's a decision that's been brewing for a little while," Eric told Carolina's website. "I just feel like the risk isn't worth it right now."

Team Scope:

Jets: Defenseman Tobias Enstrom returned to the lineup on Sunday after missing the previous 19 games with a shoulder injury and paired with Dustin Byfuglien as Winnipeg snapped a two-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Enstrom scored his third goal of the season midway through the second period to give the Jets a 3-1 lead. Goalie Ondrej Pavelec, who was making his 10th straight start, made 23 saves against the Lightning.

Hurricanes: Carolina's winless streak extended to five games last Thursday in a 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils at PNC Arena. Jeff Skinner broke the shutout bid for Devils goalie Martin Brodeur with a power-play goal in the third period, but the Hurricanes were trailing 3-1 at that point. The good news for the Hurricanes was the return of Tuomo Ruutu, who played his first game of the season after undergoing hip surgery in December.

"We're all about accountability, and some guys have to look in the mirror and get their game going and get the work boots on because that's what it's going to take," coach Kirk Muller said. "It's playoff hockey right now. Everything is cranked up, everything is harder and you have to earn your space."

Who's hot: Hurricanes captain Eric Staal has two goals, seven points and a plus-2 rating in the past seven games. … Byfuglien has two goals and nine points in the past eight games for Winnipeg and leads the team in average ice time per game (24:58) through 28 matches.

Injury report: Jets defensemen Ron Hainsey (undisclosed) and Mark Stuart (undisclosed) are questionable; defender Zach Redmond (thigh) and forwards Jim Slater (upper body) and Anthony Peluso (hand) are out. … Hurricanes defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti (upper body) is questionable while defensemen Justin Faulk (knee) and Joe Corvo (lower body), and goalie Dan Ellis (left leg) are out.
