Avalanche home to face banged-up Canucks
Vancouver Canucks vs. Colorado Avalanche

CANUCKS (16-9-6) at AVALANCHE (11-15-4)

TV: SNET-Pacific; ALTITUDE

Last 10: Vancouver 5-3-2; Colorado 3-7-0

Season series: The Canucks are making their first visit of the season to Pepsi Center. They blanked the Avalanche 3-0 in Vancouver on Jan. 30 and have won the last eight games between the teams.

Big story: The Canucks are coming off a gritty 1-0 win at Los Angeles on Saturday -- a game they found a way to win despite icing an injury-depleted group of forwards. The Avalanche are glad to be back home after a 5-2 loss at Dallas on Saturday night, their ninth straight defeat away from the cozy confines of the Pepsi Center.

Team Scope:

Canucks: Getting only 13 shots on goal against the defending Stanley Cup champions is usually not a prescription for victory. But the Canucks pulled it off against the Kings, as Mason Raymond scored in the first period and Cory Schneider stopped all 20 shots he faced.

The Canucks won despite playing missing Ryan Kesler, David Booth and Zack Kassian, among others, up front.

"We're missing a lot of guys," captain Henrik Sedin said. "I think people got to realize where we are. I think this team has shown up every night. We're not going to score four or five goals tonight, but the effort we've given … the last five, six, seven games … we knew the wins were going to come."

Avalanche: Colorado is two different teams. At home, the Avalanche a force to be reckoned with, going 9-5-1. Away from Pepsi Center is a different story -- Colorado's 2-10-3 record is the worst in the NHL. After beating Dallas 4-3 in Denver on Wednesday, the Avs fell behind 4-0 in Dallas on Saturday and left with a 5-2 loss -- dropping them to 0-6-3 in their last nine road games.

"We're getting scored on way too early and way too much right now," forward Matt Duchene said. "We're playing catch-up all game long. We haven't played with the lead in God knows how long and it's frustrating, that's for sure. We can't afford to put ourselves behind the eight-ball every game."

Who's hot: Schneider has won his last three starts, allowing only three goals. … Duchene leads the Avalanche with 31 points, including five in his last five games.

Injury report: Kassian (back), Booth (ankle surgery) and Kesler (broken foot) have left the Canucks thin up front. … Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog missed Saturday's game with a torso injury.
