Kings try to right ship against Preds
Nashville Predators vs. Los Angeles Kings
PREDATORS (7-4-2) at KINGS (6-5-3)

TV
: FS-TN, FS-W (HD)

Last 10: Nashville 5-3-2; Los Angeles 4-4-2.

Season Series: This is the first of four meetings between the teams. Los Angeles took three of four from Nashville in 2010-11 and won the most recent showdown, a 4-2 decision at Bridgestone Arena on March 15.

Big Story: The Kings got off to a great start this season, but they've been struggling mightily as of late. Monday night's 4-2 loss at San Jose was the club's fifth in a row (0-3-2). Los Angeles hasn't scored more than two goals in any of those defeats.

"There's always a positive in every loss, and we've got to go out and play better, but this team is built to win," defenseman Matt Greene told LAKingsInsider.com after Monday's loss. "We can't be losing these games. We can't be giving the other team that many chances to beat us. If a team outplays us and does all the right things and gets the win, that's one thing … but to play right into these guys' strengths, and give them power play after power play in the second, it's just unacceptable on our part. These were two points that we needed, and we didn’t get them."

Team Scope:

Predators: Nashville is gunning for its third straight victory following Saturday's 4-3 overtime win at San Jose. David Legwand's second goal of the night came 2:53 into the extra session as the Preds improved to 4-0-1 in their last five games and 5-1-1 in the last seven.

"It was a big comeback," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "They put a lot of pucks on the net in the first period but we stayed resilient, and Leggy -- deservedly so -- gets the winner."

Kings: Monday marked the first meeting of the season between the Kings and Sharks, who faced each other in the opening round of the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs. San Jose won that series in six games, with three of their four victories requiring overtime. San Jose didn't need extra time this game, doing more than enough damage in a dominant second period, which saw the Sharks score three times in under six minutes.

"I'm not going to worry about the confidence, but you can't get careless," Kings coach Terry Murray said. "If you are going to be a good team in this League, you've got to make sure that you are playing hard, competing, and playing the right way."

Who's Hot: Legwand has points in four straight games for Nashville, while Patric Hornqvist has a career-high, five-game scoring streak.

Injury Report: Kevin Klein (ankle) and Sergei Kostitsyn (lower body) are day-to-day for the Predators. Nick Spaling (lower body) is out.

Stat Pack: Preds goalie Pekka Rinne has appeared in each of his club's first 13 games this season. He is 7-4-2 with a 2.33 goals-against average and .930 save percentage. He signed a 7-year, $49 million contract extension last week.

Puck Drop: "He has lots of courage. He's really fearless. He's our version of (Detroit's) Tomas Holmstrom. He's going to the net and he's getting rewarded." -- Nashville coach Barry Trotz on Patric Hornqvist
