Do-or-die as Coyotes battle Red Wings in Game 6
Phoenix Coyotes vs. Detroit Red Wings
COYOTES at RED WINGS

(Red Wings lead best-of-seven series, 3-2)

Big Story --
Detroit, which has reached the Stanley Cup Playoffs for 19 consecutive seasons and the Stanley Cup Final the past two years, is one win away from the second round. The Red Wings came up big on Friday night, as they scored three times in the third period in a 4-1 win at Phoenix.

Team Scope:

Coyotes --
Phoenix appeared to be in good shape on Friday night as it found itself in a 1-1 tie after 40 minutes. But things changed drastically for the worse in the third period, and now the Coyotes will play with their season on the line Sunday afternoon at Joe Louis Arena, where they earned a split in Games 3 and 4.

"It's a matter of a few mistakes and capitalizing on chances," forward Vernon Fiddler said. "We have to work for everything we get. We've done it all year. No one has thrown us a bone all year, so now we have to get one."

Red Wings --
Jimmy Howard was named a finalist for the Calder Trophy earlier this week, and rightfully so. Now, he's showing the world why.

The Detroit goaltender has been fabulous the past two games as he's stopped 59 of 60 shots to help turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 series lead.

"This is the time of year when you're just leaving every single thing on the ice. It's a blast and I sort of cherish it out there," Howard said. "The hardest game of the year is closing someone out and it's going to be a dogfight, just like every since game in this series has been."

Who's Hot --
Coyotes forward Matthew Lombardi assisted on Ed Jovanovski's goal in the second period on Friday night. It was his fifth assist and sixth point of the series. … Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg scored an empty-net goal on Friday night, giving him six goals against Phoenix.

Injury Report -- Phoenix captain Shane Doan (upper body) missed his second straight game on Friday. Coach Dave Tippett is optimistic than Doan will be able to play in Game 6. Kurt Sauer (neck) and Scottie Upshall (knee) are done for the season. … Wings forward Kirk Maltby (shoulder) is out.

Stat Pack --
Despite having the 3-2 series lead, Detroit has scored only one power-play goal in the first five games. Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom tallied it back in Game 1.

Puck Drop --
"These games are very tight. Every single play is a play that can have a bearing on the game," Tippett said. "There are spurts where one team grabs the momentum over the other, but it's what you can do with that momentum. The last two games, they've (responded with) a couple of quick plays that have put the game out of reach."
