Coyotes-Flyers Preview
Phoenix Coyotes vs. Philadelphia Flyers

Streaky has been the word to best describe the Philadelphia Flyers and Phoenix Coyotes during November.

The clubs, currently heading in different directions, meet on Saturday night in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia (8-6-4) enters this contest after a 3-0 victory at Buffalo on Friday night. Jeff Carter had two third-period goals, and Scott Hartnell added one for the Flyers, who have won three straight.

"We played a pretty basic game," said Carter, who has four goals over his last four games.

The Flyers are 4-0-1 since losing three straight to open November, but now will try to avoid their third straight loss to Phoenix.

The Coyotes (8-9-1) opened a four-game road trip with a 5-2 loss at Carolina on Friday, their fourth consecutive defeat after winning their previous three contests.

Phoenix, though, has outscored Philadelphia 7-2 in the two most recent meetings. The Coyotes won 3-2 at Philadelphia on Dec. 18 in their last contest.

The Flyers hope their recent strong play will help end that brief skid against the Coyotes, though Philadelphia is expected to be without injured co-captain Daniel Briere for a fifth consecutive game.

Hartnell, who scored in Philadelphia's last game with Phoenix, has three goals in his last two contests versus the Coyotes.

Martin Biron made 40 saves against the Sabres - his former team - for his first shutout of the season.

"It wasn't a perfect game for me, nor was it for the whole team, but we pulled it off," said Biron, who is 2-4-1 with a 2.31 goals-against average against Phoenix, but has started on consecutive days once this season.

He posted two straight victories during a home-and-home set with New Jersey on Oct. 24-25.

Backup Antero Niittymaki is 2-1-2 with a 2.94 GAA this season, and has yet to face Phoenix.

Shane Doan scored his team-leading 11th goal on Friday for Phoenix, which has not scored more than two goals in any of its last three contests.

"We've got to answer back," Doan said. "Urgency and desperation. It's every single one of us finding a way to get that loose puck and find that second effort. It's not fun when it's not working, and you're having to battle for every little one. When it's easy, it's fun. When it's not, it's really hard."

Doan has an assist in each of the Coyotes' last two games versus Philadelphia.

Ilya Bryzgalov made 28 saves for the Coyotes against Carolina, but suffered his fourth straight loss. Though he is 1-0-0 with a 2.32 GAA versus Philadelphia, Bryzgalov could get the night off .

Backup Mikael Tellqvist is 1-1-0 with a 2.01 GAA this season, but hasn't played since Oct. 25. He is 2-1-0 with a 1.68 GAA versus the Flyers.
