Devils-Penguins Preview
New Jersey Devils vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

GAME: New Jersey Devils (33-22-8) at Pittsburgh Penguins (14-37-12).

TIME: Saturday, 7:30 p.m. EST.

Martin Brodeur tries to continue his winning ways in Pittsburgh and help the New Jersey Devils win for the eighth time in their last 12 games when they play the Penguins.

Brodeur is 13-7-0 with a 2.49 goals-against average and two shutouts lifetime against the Penguins at Pittsburgh, where he has won six consecutive starts since a 6-0 defeat Nov. 27, 2001, when he was pulled after allowing four goals on eight shots.

The future Hall of Famer is 22-15 with four ties, a 2.62 GAA and three shutouts lifetime versus the Penguins.

Brodeur, who has 434 wins and is three shy of tying Jacques Plante for fourth on the all-time list, also has adjusted well during the first season of the shootout.

He improved to 7-3 in shootouts following Friday's 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals, ending the game with a glove save on Ben Clymer in the fifth round.

The win came following some extra work in practice by Brodeur, who had lost two shootout decisions to the Islanders in the past week.

"I think I took about 35, 40 breakaways from guys out in front and just got a little of my rhythm back," Brodeur said. "I felt a little more big in net. I don't believe in the system of shootouts to win games, but this is what it is and the fans love it."

Patrik Elias made an immediate impact in his return to the lineup with three assists, two on goals by Scott Gomez. Elias had been sidelined with bruised ribs suffered while playing for the Czech Republic last month in the Olympics.

"There's no question what Patrik does when he's in the lineup," Devils general manager and coach Lou Lamoriello said. "That whole line was moving the puck."

Gomez has five goals and two assists in four games against the Penguins, while linemate Brian Gionta has three goals and two assists.

The Penguins have lost four straight games, including a 6-3 defeat Thursday to the Capitals. Colby Armstrong, John LeClair and Ryan Malone scored goals for Pittsburgh, which has been outscored 22-15 during its losing streak.

Pittsburgh is 0-4-2 in its last six home games and has lost 11 of its last 12 at home overall. Rookie Sidney Crosby a goal and three assists in a three-game points streak.

Crosby has 16 goals and 21 assists in 33 home games.
