TIME: Thursday, 8 p.m. EST.
One night after shutting out the Predators 6-0 at Joe Louis Arena for their fourth straight win, the Red Wings try to sweep a home-and-home series at Nashville.
The Predators tied the Red Wings for the Central Division lead by beating them on their home ice Jan. 23 and Jan. 24. The teams have headed in opposite directions since, with Nashville dropping five of seven games and Detroit going 5-0-1 to open up a seven-point advantage.
Manny Legace only had to stop 20 shots to earn his second consecutive shutout Wednesday. He extended his scoreless streak to 165 minutes, 6 seconds.
"I got some bounces in the last couple of games," Legace said. "I hope it keeps up."
The Red Wings put the game out of reach with a dominating second period in which they scored three times and outshot the Predators 20-2. Brendan Shanahan, Mathieu Schneider and Henrik Zetterberg had the goals in the period for Detroit.
"It's going to be a different game (Thursday), for sure," said Zetterberg, who added two assists and has nine points during his five-game scoring streak.
Nashville goaltender Tomas Vokoun allowed four goals in two periods before being replaced by Chris Mason. Vokoun gave up a total of just three goals in the wins at Detroit two weeks ago.
"Everybody has to be accountable in the dressing room and you've got to do the job," Vokoun said. "You can only control what you can do.
"I don't know the reason why, but definitely some people just weren't ready or didn't play hard enough, that's just how it was. I don't know the reason."
The Predators failed to score in two power-play opportunities Monday, making them 0-for-9 with the man advantage in their last two contests. Meanwhile, Detroit has killed off 37 consecutive penalties over its last seven games.
The last power-play goal the Red Wings allowed was scored Jan. 23 by Nashville's Scott Hartnell.
The road team had won all three meetings in the season series between the clubs before Wednesday.
