NEW YORK (Jan. 24, 2008) - The National Hockey League (NHL) has entered into a strategic marketing alliance with The GreenLife Organization, LLC (GreenLife).  Launched in 2007, GreenLife develops comprehensive global solutions that help businesses, institutions and individuals "go green" by increasing operational energy efficiency, purchasing power from renewable sources, and offsetting emissions.

GreenLife, as a League partner, will help the NHL and its member Clubs develop and document its green initiatives in a "Green Plan" while concurrently assessing current operations, identifying and implementing best practices, and recommending specific steps to reduce the League's carbon footprint and improve its overall environmental impact.

GreenLife also will identify opportunities for increased energy efficiency, propose renewable energy alternatives, and recommend a portfolio of carbon offsets.  In addition, the NHL and GreenLife will activate a public awareness campaign that promotes green living.

In taking a leadership position in environmental initiatives, the NHL has also has been working with the non-profit Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), one of the country's most effective and influential environmental organizations. NRDC's environmental specialists have a long, successful record of working with business, communities and government to set and meet strong performance measures.

As an independent third party, NRDC will provide technical guidance and strategic assessments to the NHL and its Clubs.  The NRDC is developing Web-based Greening Advisors for each NHL Club to help each Club and the League to identify ecologically meaningful strategies to reduce their impacts on the planet.

"The NHL, as a responsible corporate citizen, is taking action that allows us to help sustain the environment for future generations of NHL fans and players," said Bill Daly, NHL Deputy Commissioner.  "Building on the excellent work that the NHLPA and NHL Clubs already are doing, our partnership with GreenLife, along with technical guidance from the NRDC, will help the NHL add the resources it needs to meaningfully reduce its impact on the environment and inspire fans, players, Clubs and others to take action."

"We are excited to partner with the NHL to help raise awareness of climate change and the benefits of a green life," said Neil Braun, CEO and chairman of GreenLife.  "The NHL is again demonstrating its strength and vision by analyzing how to reduce the emissions from its operations and events, and using carbon credits to further minimize its impact on the environment."

"Lakes are freezing later and melting earlier, and biodiversity is being undermined at historically unprecedented rates. To address these global pressures greening initiatives have to identify ecologically meaningful, achievable goals. Our role is to help the NHL create the framework to successfully do so," said NRDC Senior Scientist Dr. Allen Hershkowitz. "The NHL has an opportunity to make a real difference in its own operations, and also to set a standard for others to follow. We are excited to embark on this project."

About the NHL
The National Hockey League, founded in 1917, is the second-oldest of the four major professional team sports leagues in North America.  Today, the NHL consists of 30 Member Clubs, each reflecting the League's international makeup, with players from more than 20 countries represented on team rosters. According to a Simmons Market Research study, NHL fans are younger, more educated, more affluent, and access content through digital means more than any other sport. The NHL entertains more than 100 million fans each season in-arena and through its partners in national television (VERSUS, NBC, TSN, CBC, RDS, RIS, NASN, NHL Network and HDNet) and radio (Westwood One and XM Radio).  Through the NHL Foundation, the League's charitable arm, the NHL raises money and awareness for Hockey Fights Cancer, Hockey's All-Star Kids and NHL Diversity, and supports the charitable efforts of all NHL players.
