Niederreiter, Wild agree to three-year contract

Restricted free agent forward Nino Niederreiter has agreed to terms on a three-year contract with the Minnesota Wild, the team announced Thursday. No financial terms were disclosed, but Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported it's worth $8 million.

Niederreiter, 22, had career bests of 14 goals, 22 assists and 36 points playing 81 games. He had three goals and three assists in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

He had his biggest moment in Game 7 of the Western Conference First Round against the Colorado Avalanche, when his second goal, at 5:07 of overtime, gave the Wild its first postseason series victory since 2003.

"I was kind of worried towards the end (of the contract talks). I was kind of getting nervous," Niederreiter told the Wild website. "I wasn't sure what was going to happen, but I'm very happy to be a part of the Wild again and I'm just really excited to get it going."

Abbott signs one-year contract with Maple Leafs

Restricted free-agent forward Spencer Abbott signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team announced Tuesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Abbott, 26, made his NHL debut last season in an Oct. 5 game against the Ottawa Senators.

He spent the remainder of the season with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, where he had 17 goals and was second on the team with 69 points in 64 regular-season games. Abbott was named an AHL Second-Team All-Star and was selected to participate in the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic, but missed the game due to injury.

Capitals re-sign defenseman Cameron Schilling

Defenseman Cameron Schilling re-signed Tuesday with the Washington Capitals, receiving a one-year, two-way contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Schilling, 25, has played in one game for the Capitals in each of the past two seasons. He had three goals and 16 points in 70 games last season for the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League. He had seven goals and 16 points in 2012-13 for Hershey.

Schilling was signed by Washington as an undrafted free agent on March 27, 2012.

Red Wings offer defenseman Diaz tryout: report

The Detroit Red Wings have offered defenseman Raphael Diaz a tryout at their training camp, according to MLive.com. However, Red Wings general manager Ken Holland told Ansar Khan that Diaz has some options and has not decided if he will accept it.

Diaz, 28, is a right-handed shot the Red Wings need. In 63 games last season for the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers, the Swiss defenseman had two goals and 15 points with a minus-2 rating. He also played four games for Switzerland at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and in four Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Rangers before becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Diaz has six goals, 45 points and a minus-5 rating in 145 NHL games.

Avalanche sign defenseman Barrie to two-year deal

The Colorado Avalanche signed defenseman Tyson Barrie to a two-year contract through the 2015-16 season, the team announced Thursday. The contract is worth $5.2 million, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Barrie, 23, scored 13 goals last season, the most by an Avalanche defenseman since John-Michael Liles had 14 in 2006-07. Barrie finished second among Colorado defensemen in points (38) and assists (25) in 64 games. He finished third on the team with a plus-17 rating and had two assists in three Stanley Cup Playoff games before sustaining a knee injury in Game 3 of the Western Conference First Round series against the Minnesota Wild.

Flyers sign defenseman Manning to one-year contract

Restricted free-agent defenseman Brandon Manning signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Manning, 24, had eight goals, 31 points, a minus-24 rating and a team-high 231 penalty minutes in 73 games last season with the Adirondack Phantoms, the Flyers' American Hockey League affiliate.

Bouma signs one-year contract with Flames

Center Lance Bouma, a restricted free agent, signed a one-year contract with the Calgary Flames on Wednesday, the team announced. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Bouma, 24, spent the full season in the NHL for the first time in 2013-14 after seeing some NHL action the previous two seasons. He had five goals and 15 points in 78 games last season, his 181 hits led the Flames, and his 87 blocked shots were the most among Calgary forwards.

Sarich getting better after cycling accident

Free agent defenseman Cory Sarich is improving in his recovery from injuries sustained in a cycling accident one month ago.

In an interview with the Calgary Herald published Tuesday, Sarich said he did not know if or when he would resume his NHL career.

"This has thrown a big wrinkle into it and I don't know what's going to happen. But right now my priority is to get healthy," Sarich told writer Kristen Odland. "I want to get myself back in shape regardless if hockey is an option moving forward. I'm just going to play it by ear from here."

Setoguchi signs one-year contract with Flames

Forward Devin Setoguchi signed a one-year contract with the Calgary Flames, the team announced Saturday.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but Bob McKenzie of TSN reports it is worth $750,000.

"I think he's a player who, in a lot of ways, is at the crossroads of his career and has realized that he needs to really try to dig in here and re-establish his career," general manager Brad Treliving told the Calgary Sun. "We think it's a good fit, and ultimately the way the contract is structured, it’s a mitigated risk and there's some upside here. ... Just talking to him and spending some time with him, I think he's a motivated player."

Rangers agree to terms with forward Kristo

Forward Danny Kristo agreed to terms with the New York Rangers on a contract Thursday, the team announced. Length and financial terms were not disclosed.

Kristo, 24, comes off his first full American Hockey League season, when he led the Hartford Wolf Pack with 25 goals and had 43 points.
