Abbott signs one-year contract with Maple Leafs
Restricted free agent Spencer Abbott signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday

Restricted free-agent forward Spencer Abbott signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team announced Tuesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Abbott, 26, made his NHL debut last season in an Oct. 5 game against the Ottawa Senators.

He spent the remainder of the season with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, where he had 17 goals and was second on the team with 69 points in 64 regular-season games. Abbott was named an AHL Second-Team All-Star and was selected to participate in the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic, but missed the game due to injury.

Signed by the Maple Leafs as an undrafted free agent, Abbott had 146 points in four seasons at the University of Maine and as a senior in 2011-12 he had 21 goals and an NCAA-best 62 points.
