Matthews extends point streak to nine games

Center Auston Matthews extended his season-high point streak to nine games when he had two goals and an assist in two games last week for Zurich in Switzerland's top professional league.

Matthews, No. 1 on NHL Central Scouting's midterm list of international skaters eligible for the 2016 NHL Draft, had his seven-game goal streak end on Jan. 26 in a 3-2 win against Fribourg-Gotteron. Matthews had eight shots in the game.

He has 10 goals, 16 points, a 23.8 shooting percentage, and a 1.77 points-per game average in the past nine games. He is tied for second in the National League A Division with 22 goals in 30 games. He has scored five power-play goals. Matthews ranks second in the league with 1.23 points-per game; Pierre-Marc Bouchard of Zug leads the league with a 1.49 points-per game average in 41 games.

Zurich will play at Lausanne in the championship of the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup on Wednesday before resuming its regular-season schedule against Lugano on Feb. 7.

Bern won the 2014-15 Swiss Ice Hockey Cup after a 3-1 victory against Kloten.
