We're doing something a little different today in honour of the 2017 Scotiabank NHL 100 Classic. I asked 5 Sens players about their experience on outdoor rinks as a kid for a special edition of the Game Day 5.

1. Jean-Gabriel Pageau - Ottawa, ON

I remember breaking a lot of sticks, missing the net and having to go find the puck in the snow and I remember that my dad would take me skating outside before he would go to work in the morning at the outdoor rinks right by my parent's house. I was always the first one out there so the ice was always perfect and fresh. I remember my feet getting cold but it was a great time. To have the chance to play in the game on Saturday, I consider myself really lucky, especially because this one is in Ottawa. I know I'm going to have a lot of friends and family coming out to the game.

2. Craig Anderson - Park Ridge, IL

I remember skating outdoors in my hometown as a kid. It wasn't like a rink or anything but it was a grassy area that they would ice down and you had a little hut that you could lace up your skates before wheeling on out there. You definitely had the outdoor rink scene in Chicago. One of my buddies who I played with, his dad would always build a rink out back and we'd go out there and we'd play for hours. I think it's going to be a little bit colder on Saturday than what I experienced as a kid but hockey's fun. It's supposed to be fun and that's what makes this fun. When you're a kid you don't need a building to play it, you just need a dad who knows what he's doing.

  1. Bobby Ryan - Cherry Hill, NJ

I've never had any outdoor ice experience. I started outdoors like everybody else on a little frozen pond in New Jersey but we never had the weather for it really. I grew up on rollerblades by the beach so I'm going to rely on some of my teammates for fashion advice on Saturday. I'm kind of just listening to what everyone else is doing to keep warm and hoping for the best.

4. Thomas Chabot - Ste. Marie-de-Beauce, PQ

Literally 30 seconds away from my house back home I have an outdoor rink. The hours that I spent there, I couldn't even tell you. I would get out of school and head right there until 9-9;30 at night. To actually have the chance to play an NHL game this season on the outdoor rink where I spent so much time as a kid is going to be special. It will be weird at first to play outside but it's going to be a great experience.

5. Nate Thompson - Anchorage, AK

Usually the outdoor rinks were pretty jammed packed. You were going to the hot spots to find whatever game was going on. I'd call my buddies up and we'd always have a lot of guys out there. It's a special memory for me being from Alaska and being able to skate outside. I think that was where I really improved my game because you'd be out there for hours and I really, really enjoyed it so I'm looking forward to the game on Saturday. With the weather in Alaska, we had incredible ice too. I remember never having an issue with bad ice outdoors in Alaska. You would really lose yourself when you're playing hockey outdoors. You could just go out on the ice and enjoy it with your buddies and have a good time.
