The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed defencemen Jordie Benn and Victor Mete to one-year contracts. The average annual value of both contracts is $750,000.

Benn, 34, recorded eight points (one goal, seven assists) in 39 games with the Minnesota Wild during the 2021-22 season. The Victoria, BC native has skated in 595 career regular season games split between Minnesota, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Montréal and Dallas and posted 135 points (25 goals, 110 assists) while adding four assists through 23 career playoff games.
Benn originally joined the Dallas Stars organization as a free agent on September 27, 2010.
Mete, 24, recorded seven assists in 37 games with the Ottawa Senators during the 2021-22 season. The Woodbridge, ON native has posted 43 points (five goals, 38 assists) through 236 career regular season games split between Ottawa and Montréal and has collected two assists in 10 career playoff games.
Internationally, Mete won a gold medal with Team Canada during the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship. Mete represented the team as an assistant captain and recorded three assists in six games during the tournament.
Mete was originally selected by Montréal in the fourth round (100th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft.
