NEW YORK – Nashville Predators forward James Neal has been fined $2,000 as supplementary discipline under NHL Rule 64 (Diving/Embellishment), the National Hockey League announced today.

Revised for the 2014-15 season following offseason approval by the League's Board of Governors and the National Hockey League Players' Association, NHL Rule 64 is designed to bring attention to and more seriously penalize players (and teams) who repeatedly dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties.

NEW YORK – Dallas Stars forward Ryan Garbutt has been suspended for three games, without pay, for slew-footing Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien during NHL Game No. 416 in Dallas on Tuesday, Dec. 9, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 13:22 of the third period. Garbutt was assessed a minor penalty for tripping.

Garbutt is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, will forfeit $65,853.66. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

NEW YORK -- Minnesota Wild defenseman Marco Scandella has been suspended for two games, without pay, for an illegal check to the head of New York Islanders forward Brock Nelson during NHL Game No. 415 in St. Paul on Tuesday, December 9, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 17:32 of the third period. Scandella was assessed a minor penalty for illegal check to the head.

Dallas Stars forward Ryan Garbutt will have a hearing Thursday morning with the NHL Department of Player Safety for a slew-footing incident with the Winnipeg Jets' Dustin Byfuglien during a game Tuesday at American Airlines Arena.

Garbutt and Byfuglien were pursuing a puck in the Winnipeg end when Garbutt knocked down Byfuglien at 13:22 of the third period. Garbutt was assessed a minor penalty for tripping. Byfuglien remained in the game.

The Jets won the game 5-2.

Minnesota Wild defenseman Marco Scandella will have a hearing Wednesday night with the NHL Department of Player Safety for an illegal check to the head of New York Islanders forward Brock Nelson during a game Tuesday at Xcel Energy Center.

Nelson was pursuing a puck in the Minnesota zone when Scandella hit Nelson at 17:32 of the third period. Scandella was assessed a minor penalty for an illegal check to the head. Nelson remained in the game.

The Wild won the game 5-4.

NEW YORK -- Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane has been suspended for two games, without pay, for boarding Anaheim Ducks defenseman Clayton Stoner during NHL Game No. 402 in Winnipeg on Sunday, December 7, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 19:49 of the second period. Kane was assessed a major penalty for checking from behind and a game misconduct.

NEW YORK - Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Robert Bortuzzo has been suspended for two games, without pay, for interference against New Jersey Devils forward Jaromir Jagr during NHL Game No. 364 in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, December 2, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 17:57 of the second period.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Bortuzzo will forfeit $6,451.62. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Robert Bortuzzo will have a Wednesday afternoon hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety for a late hit on New Jersey Devils forward Jaromir Jagr during a game Tuesday at Consol Energy Center.

Bortuzzo hit Jagr into the boards with 2:03 remaining in the second period. Jagr did not return to the game. No penalty was called on the play.

The Penguins won the game 1-0.

The incident occurred at 8:45 of the first period. Scandella was assessed a minor penalty for illegal check to the head.

The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

NEW YORK – Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin has been fined $11,021.51, the maximum permitted under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for an illegal check to the head of Buffalo Sabres forward Brian Gionta during NHL Game No. 337 in Buffalo on Friday, November 28, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.
