Restricted free agent forward Colin Wilson is asking for $4.25 million in arbitration with the Nashville Predators, who are offering $3 million, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Sunday.

Wilson's hearing is scheduled for Tuesday in Toronto. He made $2.5 million last season, when he set NHL career highs with 20 goals, 42 points and 172 shots. He had five goals in the Western Conference First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which the Predators lost in six games to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Defenseman Adam Larsson, a restricted free agent, re-signed with the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, avoiding arbitration with a six-year, $25 million contract (an average annual value of $4,166,667).

Larsson was scheduled for arbitration on July 29. General manager Ray Shero said earlier this week he was confident a deal could be reached before the hearing.

"I think this is a good deal for both sides," Shero told Northjersey.com. "This is a young defenseman at 22 years old who is signed for a six-year term. Adam showed a commitment that he really wanted to be here, and we got him three years past the age of unrestricted free agency."

Marcus Johansson and the Washington Capitals have not made any progress in contract negotiations in advance of a salary arbitration hearing scheduled for July 29.

"I think they're status quo from last time," Washington general manager Brian MacLellan said Friday while discussing goalie Braden Holtby's new five-year, $30.5 million contract.

Holtby and the Capitals had an arbitration hearing Thursday in Toronto. MacLellan said he hopes to avoid one for Johansson, a 24-year-old center.

Capitals sign goaltender Holtby to five-year contract

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Goalie Braden Holtby re-signed with the Washington Capitals on Friday, getting a five-year, $30.5 million contract.

"Since Day One I've wanted to be the guy in the Washington Capitals net, since I got drafted by them," said Holtby, the 93rd pick in the 2008 NHL Draft. "It doesn't change. I'm just happy to have the opportunity, and like in the past I know I still have to prove it."

Holtby, 25, is the first Capitals goalie signed to a contract of more than three years since Olaf Kolzig's five-year, $31 million extension in August 2001.

Washington will pay Holtby $3.5 million in salary plus a $3 million bonus this season. He'll be paid $7 million each of the next two seasons and $5 million each of the final two seasons.

Signing Holtby to a long-term contract is a big part of the greater goal for the organization, Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan said.

"You see what he accomplished last year and the effect he's had on our team," MacLellan said. "He's a perfect fit for what we think we have. He's a good teammate, a good person, and I think he's just touching the surface of what he could become. I think the certainty of having him in our lineup over the next -- whatever time we have, the window to win a championship -- is why we're excited about signing him today."

Canadiens, Semin agree to terms on one-year contract

Friday, 07.24.2015 / 3:34 PM / NHL Free Agency 2015

MONTREAL -- The Montreal Canadiens took a minimal risk to potentially reap a huge reward by agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with unrestricted free agent forward Alexander Semin on Friday.

Semin's contract with the Canadiens reportedly is worth $1.1 million. The Carolina Hurricanes bought out the final three years of his five-year, $35 million contract earlier this month.

The Canadiens finished last season 20th in the NHL in goals per game and 23rd in power-play efficiency, two areas the Canadiens hope Semin's arrival can address.

"Alex is a pure goal-scorer with a good shot," general manager Marc Bergevin said in a statement. "We believe his addition to our group of forwards will strengthen our offensive production and our power play. A veteran winger with size, Semin has reached the 20-goal plateau seven times since the beginning of his NHL career 12 years ago. His signing represents a great opportunity for the organization and for Alex's career."

Cody Franson speaking with Bruins, other teams

Tuesday, 07.21.2015 / 3:28 PM / NHL Free Agency 2015

NHL.com

Unrestricted free agent defenseman Cody Franson said Tuesday he is in discussions with five or six teams, including the Boston Bruins, but he's not sure when he will sign a contract.

"There are some very interested [teams], but some teams are in cap situations and all the rest that comes with it," Franson during a radio interview with TSN 1040 in Vancouver. "So everything is just kind of slowly rolling, but definitely [we] have some action."

Franson played the past three seasons each on a one-year contract. He said he is looking for a multiyear contract this summer. Last season carried a $3.3 million NHL salary-cap charge.

"Obviously, I'd like to get something a little more than one year," he said. "I'm sick of doing one-year deals. But we're open to all suggestions, really."
