2015 NHL preseason begins Sunday, Sept. 20

NEW YORK -- The National Hockey League announced today the composite schedule for the 2015 preseason, which opens on Sunday, Sept. 20.

Among the highlights of the 15-day, 104-game slate is the New York Islanders launching the first season in their new home, Barclays Center, in Brooklyn. The Islanders will play host to three Metropolitan Division rivals: the Philadelphia Flyers Sept. 21, New Jersey Devils Sept. 23 and Washington Capitals Sept. 28.

The people of North Saanich, B.C., winners of the Canada-wide Kraft HockeyvilleTM competition, will celebrate the grand prize when the San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks visit their community on Sept. 21. The Sharks and Canucks will face off that night at the nearby Q Centre. The game will be broadcast in Canada on Sportsnet at 7:30 p.m., PT/10:30 p.m., ET.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning will square off in the inaugural Kraft Hockeyville USA matchup in Johnstown, Pa., on Sept. 29. The game will be broadcast in the United States by NBCSN at 7 p.m., ET.

NBC Sports Group announces 2014-15 schedule

The Los Angeles Kings will have a national audience watching them raise their Stanley Cup banner when they open the 2014-15 season on NBCSN against the San Jose Sharks.

The Kings-Sharks game is the second half of an opening-night doubleheader that includes the first "Wednesday Night Rivalry" game of the season, when the Philadelphia Flyers visit the Boston Bruins.

Those are two of the 103 regular-season games NBC and NBCSN will televise this season. All games will stream live on NBC Sports Live Extra.

NBCSN will have games on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, with a Sunday night game coming in January. "Wednesday Night Rivalry" returns to feature some of the biggest rivalries in the history of the game, and on 10 of the 24 WNR nights NBCSN will feature a second game between Western Conference teams.

NEW YORK -- The National Hockey League today announced the following adjustments to the 2014-15 regular-season schedule:

Montreal Canadiens at Tampa Bay Lightning moves from April 7 to Monday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Carolina Hurricanes at New York Rangers moves from Oct. 17 to Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. ET.

Winter Classic, rivalries highlight 2014-15 schedule

The Chicago Blackhawks will be the opponent for the Washington Capitals in the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.

That's one of the highlights of the schedule for the 2014-15 NHL season, which was released Sunday. The Blackhawks and Capitals will meet on Jan. 1 in what has become the League's marquee regular-season game.

This will be the second Winter Classic for each team. Chicago played host to the Detroit Red Wings in 2009 at Wrigley Field, and the Capitals were at Heinz Field to play the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2011. The Blackhawks also participated in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series against the Penguins in the snow at Soldier Field.

Kings to host Sharks in 2014-15 home opener

The Los Angeles Kings will begin the defense of their Stanley Cup championship against the team that nearly ended their magical run before it got rolling.

Los Angeles will host the San Jose Sharks to Staples Center as part of a four-game night Oct. 8 to start the 2014-15 NHL season, the League announced Saturday.
