Subban's style suits Canadiens in Winter Classic win
P.K. Subban was happy to have the two points that came with the Montreal Canadiens' 5-1 win against the Boston Bruins in the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban didn't come away from the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium with an autograph from New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, like teammate Mike Condon did.

But Subban was happy to have the two points that came with the Canadiens' 5-1 win against the Boston Bruins in the outdoor game and a chance to playfully take a shot at Brady and Boston fans.

Subban revealed where his NFL loyalties lie when asked how he felt about leaving empty-handed while Condon, a Patriots fan from Holliston, Mass., scored the autographs of Brady and coach Bill Belichick on his mask before the game.

"I'm a little rattled about that, but you know what? He's a hometown guy. I'm a (Dallas) Cowboys fan anyways," Subban said. "You know what? Tom doesn't want to sign me anything, so be it. Whatever. The Cowboys are better anyways.

"(Dallas quarterback) Tony Romo, I'm not going to go and say Tony Romo's better, but I've met Tony and he's a nice guy. He would have signed something for me, so …"

It was some funny ribbing from Subban, but his game on the ice was as tight and sharp as Brady's passing.

Subban played a game-high 27:14, including 6:07 on the power play and 4:00 killing penalties. He assisted on Paul Byron's third-period goal that capped the scoring.

Subban was a central figure at the Winter Classic from the moment he walked into Gillette Stadium wearing a burgundy fedora with a brim that featured a Zdeno Chara-like wingspan. He augmented that with a similarly colored overcoat with a plush furlike collar and brown plaid suit.

"That was a fresh hat, fresh outfit. The whole outfit was fresh," Subban said. "I always want to make sure I look my best. I thought it was a pretty cool outfit.

"I just felt the color was probably something maybe somebody would have worn back in the day. The cut and maybe the style of the jacket and the suit are probably a little bit different. We didn't want to go too old school. We didn't want to go back to 1909. That's a little far aways back."
