Jan. 24, 2015

The NHL and NHLPA, in cooperation with the IIHF, announce that the World Cup of Hockey will return in September 2016, with eight teams – comprised of the world's best hockey players – competing for a best-on-best international hockey championship.

March 4, 2015

The NHLPA and NHL announce that ESPN has been awarded the exclusive U.S. media rights for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. They also announce that Sportsnet (English-language) and TVA Sports (French-language) have been awarded the exclusive Canadian media rights for the tournament.

June 22, 2015

Hockey Canada announces its management team for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, led by general manager Doug Armstrong along with the assistance of Marc Bergevin, Rob Blake, Ken Holland, Bob Murray and Scott Salmond.

Aug. 6, 2015

USA Hockey announces its management team for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, led by general manager Dean Lombardi along with the assistance of Paul Holmgren, Brian Burke and Jim Johannson.

Aug. 25, 2015

The Swedish Ice Hockey Association announces that Rikard Gronborg will coach its team at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, with assistance from Johan Garpenlov and Peter Popovic. Sweden also announces that Daniel Alfredsson, Nicklas Lidstrom and Mats Sundin will serve on its advisory board for the tournament.

The NHL and NHLPA announce schedule and website information for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

The NHLPA and NHL announce the management teams for Team North America and Team Europe. Edmonton Oilers President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Peter Chiarelli and Chicago Blackhawks Vice President and General Manager Stan Bowman are named managers of Team North America; German Ice Hockey Federation President Franz Reindl is appointed President/Team Leader of Team Europe and former Slovakia team captain Miroslav Satan is selected General Manager of Team Europe.
