ROOKIES RALLY SENATORS AS PLAYOFF PUSH CONTINUES

Mike Hoffman scored the tying goal with 1:48 left in regulation and Mark Stone scored at 2:43 of overtime to rally the Ottawa Senators from an early three-goal deficit to a 4-3 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins, their fourth victory in their past five games (4-0-1).

* The Senators (41-26-13, 95 points) moved into a tie with the idle Boston Bruins (41-25-13, 95 points) in terms of points for the final wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. They also kept pace with the Detroit Red Wings (42-25-13, 97 points), who won in regulation to move into third place in the Atlantic Division. Boston has one game in hand on both Detroit and Ottawa, while the Red Wings lead in the ROW tiebreaker (DET: 38, BOS: 37, OTT: 35).

* Elias Sports Bureau says the Senators overcame a 3-0 deficit to win for the second time this season, following a 4-3 overtime win on Dec. 7 vs. VAN.

* Also via Elias, different rookies scored the tying goal in the third period and the overtime winner for the first time in franchise history. The last time different rookies did that for any team was Feb. 8, 2011 (Nick Palmieri and Mattias Tedenby w/ NJD vs. CAR).

* Stone, who also scored 34 seconds into the third period to cut Ottawa's deficit to 3-2, has 6-4—10 on his seven-game point streak. That ties the longest point streak by a rookie in franchise history, a feat he previously accomplished from Jan. 8-21. Elias says the last time a rookie posted multiple seven-game point streaks in one season was 2005-06 (Brad Boyes and Alex Ovechkin).

* Stone is the first rookie to score multiple overtime goals in one season for the Senators (also March 17 at CAR). Hoffman also scored in overtime on Nov. 13 at EDM. Before this season, the Senators had only four overtime goals from rookies since 1997-98.

* Stone (24-37—61) sits one point behind the Calgary Flames' Johnny Gaudreau (23-39—62) for the rookie scoring lead. Only Alexei Yashin (30-49—79 in 1993-94) had more points as a Senators rookie.

* Hoffman leads all rookies with 27 goals, the second-most in one season by a Senators rookie behind Yashin.

* Andrew Hammond made 25 saves to improve to 18-1-2 in 21 appearances this season (1.91 goals-against average, .937 save percentage).

* Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored his second career shorthanded goal. Kyle Turris had two assists to stretch his point streak to four games (1-6—7) and Mika Zibanejad had his 100th NHL point.

RED WINGS CLIMB ATLANTIC DIVISION LADDER

Down a goal in the third period, Pavel Datsyuk had the primary assist on the tying goal and scored the game-winner with 9:35 remaining in regulation to help the Red Wings defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 and improve to 8-2-0 in their past 10 games against them dating to Dec. 9, 2007.

* The Red Wings (42-25-13, 97 points) passed the idle Bruins (41-25-13, 95 points) into third place in the Atlantic Division, but were prevented from clinching their 24th consecutive playoff berth by virtue of the Senators (41-26-13, 95 points) defeating the Penguins.

* Datsyuk scored his 50th career game-winning goal (fifth this season). His 25 goals are his most in one season since 2009-10 (27 in 80 GP), despite playing in only 62 games.

* Henrik Zetterberg (1-1—2) ended an 11-game goal drought and posted his 17th multipoint game of 2014-15. He leads the Red Wings with 17-47—64 (76 GP), one point more than Datsyuk (25-38—63).

* Gustav Nyquist scored his 27th goal of 2014-15, one shy of his career high set last season. Jimmy Howard made 30 saves to earn his second straight victory.

RANGERS CLAIM PRESIDENTS' TROPHY

Kevin Hayes tallied 1-2—3 and James Sheppard scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period to help the New York Rangers defeat the New Jersey Devils 4-2. They swept their season series with the Devils, won their fifth straight and clinched the Presidents' Trophy.

* The Rangers (52-21-7, 111 points) won the Presidents' Trophy for the third time since it was first awarded in 1985-86; they also finished first overall in 1991-92 and 1993-94, when they won their fourth Stanley Cup.

* The Rangers' 52 wins match a franchise record, while their 111 points are one shy of the club mark, each established in 1993-94 (52-24-8, 112 points).

* The Rangers have won six straight games against the Devils dating to the 2014 Coors Light Stadium Series (7-3 W). Elias says the Rangers swept their season series with the Devils for the second time in franchise history (also 1993-94: 6-0-0).

* Hayes had his second career three-point game (Feb. 12 at COL: 1-2—3). He ranks fifth in rookie scoring with 16-27—43 this season (77 GP).

* Sheppard scored his second goal in a Rangers uniform, while Carl Hagelin (1-1—2) and Ryan McDonagh had the other goals.

* Cam Talbot made 19 saves to win his first career game against the Devils. Elias says he is the first Rangers goaltender other than Henrik Lundqvist to defeat New Jersey since Nov. 5, 2005 (Kevin Weekes: 23 SV, 3-2 SO W).

WILD CLINCH THIRD STRAIGHT PLAYOFF BERTH

Devan Dubnyk made 32 saves and Jason Zucker's goal at 13:14 stood as the game-winner as the Minnesota Wild defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1, snapping a three-game losing streak, earning their second straight win over the Blackhawks and clinching their third consecutive berth in the playoffs.

* The Wild (45-27-8, 98 points) maintained their two-point lead for the first wild card over the Winnipeg Jets (42-26-12, 96 points), who also won Tuesday, and pulled within four points of the Blackhawks (48-26-6, 102 points) for third place in the Central Division.

* Minnesota's 98 points equal their total from last season (43-27-12, 98 points) and are six shy of the franchise record established in 2006-07 (48-26-8, 104 points).

* The Wild, who were eight points outside the playoff picture before Dubnyk made his team debut on Jan. 15, have posted a 27-8-3 in their 38 games since to clinch the franchise's sixth postseason berth.

* Dubnyk, who has started all 38 of those games, improved to 27-8-2 with a 1.73 GAA, .938 save percentage and five shutouts in a Wild uniform. That includes a 15-1-1 mark on the road (1.42 GAA, .953 save percentage, three shutouts).

* The Wild extended their franchise-record road winning streak to 11 games; Elias says that is one shy of the NHL record set by the Red Wings in 2005-06. Minnesota closes its season with visits to Nashville (Thursday) and St. Louis (Saturday).

* Zucker scored his third game-winning goal and 19th goal of 2014-15. Mikael Granlund scored his eighth goal of the season, matching his career high set in 2013-14.

IDLE CANUCKS ALSO LOCK UP PLAYOFF SPOT

The idle Vancouver Canucks (46-29-5, 97 points), who occupy the No. 2 seed in the Pacific Division, clinched their sixth playoff berth in the past seven seasons by virtue of the Los Angeles Kings' regulation loss to the Edmonton Oilers. It marks the franchise's 27th all-time trip to the postseason.

PAVELEC AGAIN STELLAR AS JETS SOLVE BLUES

Ondrej Pavelec made 30 saves in the Jets' 1-0 win against the St. Louis Blues to record his second shutout in as many days, guide the Jets to their third straight victory and help the club earn it first regulation win against the Blues since Oct. 8, 2009 when the franchise was in Atlanta.

* The Jets (42-26-12, 96 points) increased their lead to three points over the Kings (39-26-15, 93 points), who lost in regulation, for the second wild card in the Western Conference. The Kings, however, own the ROW tiebreaker (LAK: 37, WPG: 35).

* Elias says Pavelec is the first goaltender in Jets/Thrashers history to have shutouts on consecutive days. He also had shutouts in back-to-back personal starts for the first time in his career. The last goaltender to have a shutout in consecutive team games for the franchise was Kari Lehtonen (Oct. 7 and Oct. 9, 2006).

* Pavelec, the Thrashers' second-round pick (No. 41) in the 2005 NHL Draft, had his 15th career shutout (fourth this season) to establish a new Jets/Thrashers franchise record.

* He improved to 22-16-7 with a 2.34 GAA and .919 save percentage in 49 appearances this season, including a 9-2-0 mark in his past 11 games.

* Chris Thorburn scored the lone goal early in the second period. His two game-winning goals are the most he has scored in one season, while his seven goals are two shy of his career high established in 2010-11 (82 GP). Jim Slater and Adam Pardy had the assists.

MONAHAN, FLAMES CREATE BREATHING ROOM IN PACIFIC

Sean Monahan scored the tiebreaking goal just 1:42 after the Arizona Coyotes knotted the score to lift the Flames to a 3-2 win and sweep of their season series, and to their second straight win overall.

* The Flames (44-29-7, 95 points) pulled two points ahead of the Kings (39-26-15, 93 points) who lost in regulation for third place in the Pacific Division and also narrowed the gap on the idle Canucks (46-29-5, 97 points) for the No. 2 seed. Calgary and Los Angeles face off at Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday, with the Flames holding the season series edge (CGY: 3-1-0, LAK: 1-1-2).

* The Flames swept their season series against multiple division rivals -- 5-0-0 vs. ARI and EDM -- for the first time in franchise history. Calgary also ranks second in the NHL with 30 wins against Western Conference opponents this season (30-15-3), behind only Anaheim (33-10-5).

* Monahan scored his eighth game-winning goal of the season (10th of his career), tied for third in the NHL behind Alex Ovechkin (11) and Max Pacioretty (10). That ties Mike Cammalleri (8 in 2013-14) for the most by a Flames player since 2007-08 when Jarome Iginla had nine game-winning goals; Elias says Joe Mullen set the franchise record with 12 GWG in 1986-87.

* Monahan ranks third on the club with 31-30—61, including 2-3—5 on his current five-game point streak.

* Jonas Hiller made 22 saves to improve to 25-19-4 this season (51 GP), including a 4-1-0 mark in his past five games. He owns a 22-6-3 record in 32 appearances vs. ARI, his most career wins against any opponent.

* Johnny Gaudreau scored to pull ahead in the overall rookie scoring race with 23-39—62, one point more than Nashville's Filip Forsberg and Ottawa's Mark Stone.

* Jiri Hudler had the primary assist on Monahan's goal, extending career highs in assists (44) and points (73); that includes 4-9—13 in his past 10 games. David Jones scored the other Flames goal.

* Dennis Wideman had two assists to establish a career-high with 39 this season. Kris Russell also became the fourth Flames defenseman to reach the 30-assist plateau in 2014-15, joining Wideman, Mark Giordano (37) and TJ Brodie (30).

AROUND THE RINKS

Highlights from the rest of the schedule Tuesday:

* The New York Islanders scored two goals in 72 seconds to knot the score, including Anders Lee's tying goal at 19:32 of the third period, but Brayden Schenn scored the decisive goal with 2.1 seconds left to lift the Philadelphia Flyers to a 5-4 win and 4-0-3 record in their past seven games. The regulation loss kept the Islanders from clinching a playoff berth. Claude Giroux (2-0—2) has 11-26—37 in 33 career games against the Islanders. Jakub Voracek (0-2—2) had his 14th multiassist game of the season and fourth in his past eight games (1-11—12). Voracek (22-59—81) leads the NHL with 59 assists and ranks third in the League in scoring, two points back of John Tavares and Sidney Crosby. Mark Streit had three assists, while Steve Mason improved to 5-1-3 in in 10 appearances vs. NYI (2.25 GAA, .932 save percentage, one shutout).

* Semyon Varlamov made 40 saves, including 27 over the final two periods, and Joey Hishon scored to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 3-2 win, their second in five games against the Nashville Predators this season (2-2-1). Varlamov improved to 27-20-8 in 56 appearances, including a 4-1-1 mark when making at least 40 saves. Hishon, Colorado's first-round pick (No. 17) in the 2010 draft, scored his first career goal/point while playing in his 11th game. Jarome Iginla and Ryan O'Reilly provided the other Avalanche goals. Iginla is three goals shy of his 13th career 30-goal campaign.

* Matt Fraser scored twice and Tyler Pitlick had his first career game-winning goal to help the Oilers defeat the Kings 4-2, snapping a three-game skid and picking up their first regulation victory against the Kings since Nov. 3, 2011 (3-10-1 between wins). It marked their first head-to-head regulation win in Edmonton since Feb. 28, 2008; they earned three wins past regulation during that stretch (3-11-0). Fresh off signing a two-year contract, Anton Lander had two assists. Nail Yakupov also added a helper to match a career high for points in a season with 12-19—31 (2012-13: 17-14—31).

John Tavares had 1-2—3 against the Flyers to set a career high with 83 points (36-47—83 in 80 GP) and tie Sidney Crosby (28-55—83 in 75 GP) for the League lead . . . Crosby had 1-1—2 against the Senators; he has 9-21—30 in 29 career games vs. OTT . . . Penguins defenseman Ian Cole stretched his career-high point streak to five games (0-6—6) . . . Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis scored while playing in his 200th NHL game . . .
