KINGS VISIT THE WHITE HOUSE

The Los Angeles Kings renewed acquaintances with President Barack Obama on Monday at the White House, where they were honored for their 2014 Stanley Cup championship. This marked the Kings' second trip to the White House in the past three seasons. The Kings were joined on stage in the East Room and on a pre-ceremony tour and gathering with President Obama by members of Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy, who won the MLS Cup last season. President Obama congratulated the Kings for their 2014 Stanley Cup championship, and Luc Robitaille and Dustin Brown also spoke to the press outside of the White House.

EDMONTON EDGES SAN JOSE IN FRANCHISE RECORD 13-ROUND SHOOTOUT

Rob Klinkhammer scored on his first attempt of the season for the shootout-winner after 13 rounds and propelled the Edmonton Oilers to a 5-4 win against the San Jose Sharks. The Oilers improved to 14-28-9 (37 points).

* The 13-round shootout was the longest shootout in Edmonton franchise history; it eclipsed the previous record of 12 rounds on Jan. 17, 2008 where the Oilers dropped a 5-4 decision to the Washington Capitals.

* Jordan Eberle (2-0—2) had his third multigoal game of the season and has four points (3-1—4) in his past two games. Eberle leads the Oilers in goals (15) and points (15-18—33) this season.

* Viktor Fasth made 33 saves through 65 minutes and was scored on once in 13 shootout attempts to improve to 5-11-2 with a 3.31 goals-against average and a .891 save percentage. Fasth also improved to 3-1 in shootouts this season, where he has stopped 20 of 23 attempts for an .870 shootout save percentage.

NASH SCORES TWICE TO LEAD RANGERS PAST PANTHERS

Rick Nash (2-0—2) had his sixth multigoal game of the season to lead the New York Rangers to a 6-3 win against the Florida Panthers. The Rangers have won eight of their past 10 home games (8-2-0) and improved to 29-15-4 (62 points). The six goals matched a season-high for the Rangers; they scored six goals in a 6-1 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Jan. 3.

* The Rangers have won nine of their past 11 games against Florida (9-2-0) dating to Nov. 25, 2009 and six of their past seven home games against the Panthers (6-1-0) dating to March 22, 2011.

* Nash scored on a shorthanded breakaway and added an empty-netter to bring his goal total to 31 this season, tying Alex Ovechkin (WSH) for the NHL lead. Nash also shares the League lead with Tyler Toffoli (LAK) in shorthanded goals with four. Nash has recorded eight 30-goal seasons in his career and joined Ovechkin, Jarome Iginla and Ilya Kovalchuk as the only players to have at least eight 30-goal seasons since 2003-04.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last member of the Rangers to post a 30-goal season which also included four or more shorthanded goals was Theo Fleury, who finished the 2000-01 season with 30 goals (seven of which were shorthanded).

* Henrik Lundqvist made 33 saves to improve to 25-11-3 with a 2.25 GAA and a .922 save percentage. The victory was Lundqvist's 334th career, which allowed him to pass Nikolai Khabibulin for sole possession of 20th on the NHL's all-time list.

* Mats Zuccarello (1-1—2) scored his eighth goal and had his 18th assist for his fifth multipoint game of the season.

* Dan Boyle (1-0—1) sparked a three-goal third period for the Rangers with his sixth goal of the season. The goal was the second game-winner of the season for Boyle, who has scored in consecutive games.

DIAZ, BOLLIG SCORE FIRST GOALS IN CALGARY'S WIN AGAINST WINNIPEG

Raphael Diaz (1-0—1) and Brandon Bollig (1-0—1) each scored his first goal of the season to lead the Calgary Flames to a 5-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets. The Flames improved to 28-20-3 (59 points) to maintain their position as the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference. The Flames also improved to 7-2-0 in nine all-time home games against the Jets/Thrashers franchise.

* Diaz's power-play goal was the first of his career and stood as the second game-winning goal of his career. Bollig's goal was his first as a member of the Flames.

* Joe Colborne (0-2—2) had his third multiassist game of the season.

* Sean Monahan (1-0—1) scored an empty-netter and has now scored six times in his past eight games (6-2—8).

* Jonas Hiller made 17 saves to improve to 16-14-2 with a 2.35 GAA and a .913 save percentage. Hiller has allowed six goals in his past four starts.

* Mark Giordano (0-1—1) had his team-leading 32nd assist of the season while playing in the 500th NHL game, all with the Flames. He is the 16th player in franchise history to skate in 500 games with the club.

Rangers coach Alain Vigneault coached the 936th game of his NHL career and tied John Tortorella for 25th on the NHL's all-time games coached list. … Rangers forward Derek Stepan (0-1—1) extended his point streak against the Panthers to five games (0-7—7). … Florida forward Dave Bolland (1-1—2) had his second multipoint game of the season. … Florida forward Brad Boyes (0-2—2) had his first multiassist game of the season. … Florida forward Brandon Pirri (1-0—1) has scored four times (4-0—0) in his past five games. … Florida goaltender Roberto Luongo stopped Rangers forward Carl Hagelin on a penalty shot. … Winnipeg forward Bryan Little (1-1—2) had his eighth multipoint game of the season. … Winnipeg forward Andrew Ladd (0-2—2) had his fourth multiassist game of the season. … San Jose forward Joe Pavelski (2-1—3) had his third three-point game of the season. Pavelski has scored five times in his past five games (5-1—6) and is tied with Alex Ovechkin (WSH) for the League lead in power-play goals this season with 14. … San Jose forward Joe Thornton (0-3—3) had his first three-point game of the season and extended his point streak to six games (2-8—10). The three-assist performance also brought Thornton's career total to 600 as a member of the Sharks. Thornton is the franchise's all-time leader in the category. … Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin, New York Islanders center John Tavares and Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask have been named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the month of January. … Dallas Stars defenseman John Klingberg, who led all rookies with 13 points (5-8—13) in 13 games, has been named the NHL Rookie of the Month for January. … Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price, Tampa Bay Lightning center Cedric Paquette and Minnesota Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk have been named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week ending Feb. 1.
