OHL Roundup: Maletta scores winner as IceDogs edge Frontenacs in OT

KINGSTON, Ont. - Jordan Maletta scored Niagara's fourth power-play goal of the game 2:23 into overtime as the IceDogs edged the host Kingston Frontenacs 5-4 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Brent Moran stopped 45-of-49 shots for the IceDogs (9-20-4) while Brendan Perlini and Carter Verhaeghe had a goal and two assists apiece. Alexander Protapovich and Aaron Hayden also scored for Niagara and Luke Mercer chipped in with three assists.

Evan McEneny, Darcy Greenaway, Sam Bennett and Spencer Watson supplied the offence for the Frontenacs (16-10-4).

Kingston's Lucas Peressini turned away 38-of-43 shots in a losing cause.

The IceDogs went 4 for 8 on the power play while the Frontenacs scored twice on six chances with the man advantage.

STING 3 WHALERS 2

SARNIA, Ont. — Nikolay Goldobin scored twice in the final minute of the third period as the Sting came from behind to defeat Plymouth.

Goldobin tied the game for Sarnia (11-18-3) at 19:05 and then scored the winner with just seven seconds remaining on the clock. Alexandre Renaud also scored in the third for the Sting, who trailed 2-0 after 40 minutes of play.

Connor Chatham and Ryan Hartman scored for the Whalers (11-19-3), who are winless in their last seven contests.

Sarnia's Taylor Dupuis only had to make 14 saves for the win as Plymouth's Alex Nedeljkovic kicked out 27 shots in defeat.

PETES 5 SPIRIT 2

SAGINAW, Mich. — Jonatan Tanus and Stephen Pierog each scored twice as Peterborough beat the Spirit to snap a five-game slide.

Eric Cornel also scored for the Petes (12-18-3) while Anthony Stefano tacked on two assists.

Cody Payne and Dylan Sadowy had a goal apiece for Saginaw (16-12-5).

Peterborough's Andrew D'Agostini made 28 saves for the win as Nikita Serebryakov stopped 20-of-24 shots for the Spirit.

ATTACK 5 RANGERS 2

KITCHENER, Ont. — Damir Sharipzyanov scored twice and Brandon Hope made 36 saves as Owen Sound toppled the Rangers.

Daniel Milne, Kyle Hope and Brett Hargrave also scored for Owen Sound (16-11-5) and Brayden Rose had two assists.

Justin Bailey scored for Kitchener (11-19-1) and set up Brent Pedersen's goal as well.

Jordan DeKort started in net for the Ranger but was pulled after giving up two goals on three shots in just four minutes of action. Matthew Greenfield stopped 20-of-22 shots in relief.

KNIGHTS 5 STORM 2

LONDON, Ont. — Chris Tierney and Mitchell Marner each had a goal and two assists as the Knights beat Guelph to extend its win streak to seven games.

Max Domi, Brett Welychka and Christian Dvorak also scored for London (24-6-2) and Ryan Rupert chipped in with two assists.

Matt Finn and Robby Fabbri supplied the offence for the Storm (22-7-3).

Anthony Stolarz made 32 saves for the Knights. Justin Nichols turned away 40 shots for Guelph.

STEELHEADS 3 COLTS 2

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Bryson Cianfrone broke a 2-2 tie at 14:47 of the third period as the Steelheads halted an eight-game winless streak by defeating Barrie.

Brett Foy and Dylan Smoskowitz also scored for Mississauga (14-18-3) while Cianfrone tacked on an assist for a two-point outing.

C.J. Garcia and Jonathan Laser had a goal each for the Colts (16-13-3).

Spencer Martin made 23 saves for the Steelheads as Daniel Gibl turned aside 29-of-32 shots for Barrie.

BULLS 4 67's 3

OTTAWA — The Bulls jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back as they handed the 67's their sixth loss in a row.

Jake Marchment, Cameron Brace and Jordan Subban put Belleville (8-20-4) ahead three goals before the first period was through and Stephen Harper added the eventual winner midway through the second.

Brendan Bell, Joseph Blandisi and Dante Salituro all scored power-play goals for Ottawa (10-18-3).

Charlie Graham made 34 saves for the Bulls as Philippe Trudeau allowed four goals on 38 shots for the 67's.

WOLVES 4 GENERALS 2

SUDBURY, Ont. — Nathan Pancel scored twice and assisted on one more as the Wolves doubled up Oshawa for their seventh straight win.

Mathew Campagna and Nicholas Baptiste each had a goal and an assist for Sudbury (17-9-6) and Dominik Kahun set up two goals.

Cole Cassels and Colin Suellentrop supplied the scoring for the Generals (24-8-2), who lost in regulation for the first time in five outings.

Franky Palazesse made 31 saves for the Wolves while Daniel Altshuller stopped 34 shots in defeat.
