Canada will have an entirely new look in net for the 2013 World Junior Championship, and the first step in figuring out which goalies the team will chose takes place next week.

Hockey Canada will host a Program of Excellence goaltending camp in Calgary June 7-10, with 11 goalies competing for the attention of the scouts who will pick the team that will compete in Russia in next year's tournament.

Among the players competing are NHL Central Scouting's top three North American goaltenders for the 2012 NHL Draft -- Belleville's Malcolm Subban, Victoriaville's Brandon Whitney and Saginaw's Jake Paterson.

FINAL RANKINGS

Subban, No. 1 on Central Scouting's list, finished in the top six in the Ontario Hockey League in 2011-12 with a 2.50 goals-against average and .923 save percentage. The 6-foot-5 Whitney, No. 2 on the list, went 22-4-4 and was sixth in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with a 2.74 GAA. Paterson, No. 3 in Central Scouting's rankings, went 18-18-3 in 42 OHL games.

Two NHL prospects also were invited to the camp -- Owen Sound's Jordan Binnington, a 2011 third-round pick of the St. Louis Blues, and Edmonton's Laurent Brossoit, a 2011 sixth-round pick of the Calgary Flames.

Hockey Canada also will use the camp to evaluate goaltenders for the summer under-18 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament. Four of the five goalies invited are eligible for the 2013 NHL Draft. Storm Phaneuf, of Blainville-Boisbriand in the QMJHL, is eligible for the 2014 draft.

"We have had terrific success with this camp in its first six years, and we are excited to have Canada's best young goaltenders work with some of the top instructors in the game," Brad Pascall, Hockey Canada's vice-president of hockey operations/national teams, said. "We want to give these young goaltenders every opportunity to develop and prepare for international competition, and we feel this camp is a step in the right direction."

Former NHL goalie Ron Tugnutt, Hockey Canada's goaltender consultant, will lead the on-ice portion of the camp.
